If we make just over 50% conversion rate we come out ahead!!! It's a winning solution!

but punting will continue to be a struggle.
Apparently Dabo is the only college football head coach in American that can't seem to find a consistently good punter.

Pinion was an absolute stud. Drafted to the NFL and has been a starter consistenly. Spiers turned out pretty good after a rough start...

If you look at his numbers, he had one pretty solid year, otherwise, not too good !!!

Lakip was the biggest disappointment we’ve had… he was actually ranked in the real recruiting rankings on 247 and got the yips when he got on campus.

Not really

Pinion averaged 41 per punt for his career and under 40 in 2 of his 3 seasons. He's been good in the NFL, but he was only average at Clemson. Maybe we just stink at coaching punters?

He wasn’t average. He was good situationally and had a lot of kicks inside the 20. There’s a reason he left early and was drafted.

Still waiting on the next Dale Hatcher our best punter ever

Hatcher was phenomenal. He could boom it a mile, or hit a beautiful high “mortar shot” when the situation demanded it.
He hit the scoreboard in the Super Dome in warm-ups, something only the immortal Ray Guy had done.
We’ve had some good punters before and after Hatcher, but none that approached his level.

And how is it that every unranked team we face has an all-world punter? Anyone else notice that game after game? Coach Swinney will find us one somewhere. Go Tigers!!!!

Funny how these strong-legged kids come in here from high school, where they boomed punts into the ionosphere and the kickers seldom miss....then get here and they are all "inconsistent".....which they never were in high school. Cat Man had a rough start, Potter was all over the place for a couple of years and got chewed out on national TV. Seems to be a pattern. Does it take three years to get "consistent?" If so, why were they so consistent in high school? Must be a mental thing??

I think mental plays a role, but you also have to get the ball off much, much faster in college. I could consistently make 45-50 yard field goals when I played football in high school. But I took way, way too long to do it to be effective even at the high school level. College is even faster. There are also very few good kicking coaches. Chris Kluwe had a great article on this, where he basically said kicking coaches are often an afterthought and they don't teach proper kicking fundamentals at 99% of colleges.

probably more than his field goal kicking. We got spoiled in that the opposition rarely got an opportunity to return our kickoffs the last four years.
