You know what they say about doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results don't yah? Just kidding.....
Get well soon. Shoulder surgery sucks. Mine was a major surgery as far as shoulder surgeries go. I was out of work for 6 months and am still not fully recovered two years later. I would not wish this surgery on anyone.

tore your Rotator Cuff? Very curious/interested bc as of 1 week ago after short sudden movement(after waking from sleep)of only 3 inches laterally it now feels like a Match has been LIT inside my Deltoid when I attempt to raise my arm laterally(movement in a few other directions have been hindered as well). I just don't want to believe that I've torn my rotator cuff under such a random circumstance & injured in the process of a common mundane movement. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

What are you doing to keep tearing it??
My orthopedist said 5 years ago after my shoulder reconstruction (rotator cuff, labrum, biceps tear) that short of some blunt force trauma I'd never need surgery again on it again. So far so good, it's solid as a rock, but TIGHT. But I wouldn't wish the recovery on my worst enemy either. ⬆️
Good luck, I know how badly you must feel to be going under the knife again. 😭

I got about 10 years out of the first 1 on the left and right. Just played a lot of sports over the years starting as a kid and really started to feel pain in my 20's heavy lifting in the gym. Had I known then...
I turn 60 next year. I will eligible for replacements at that point. As I've gotten older, these surgeries get harder and harder to recover from.

Sounds like you got there the old fashioned way....you earned it alright. I hear that our joints only have so many reps in them before they fail, and some of us happen to use them more than others.
I hear you on the recovery time. That's what I'm afraid. I heard the prosthetic replacements are awesome; my orthopedist said recovery time is quicker than a total should reconstruction btw.
I'm 51 and switched to CrossFit at 44, but like you my joints aren't as awesome as they once were so I don't compete, and really limit my Olympic lifts, especially overhead.
Prayers for a successful surgery and quick recovery my man! Don't forget to take those painkillers.... 😂.

Good luck with the surgery and a speedy recovery.
I dislocated mine three times over 5 years when in my twenties and the arthritis and pain finally had me having shoulder replacement surgery 12 years ago at age 57. They say that is actually less painful than rotator cuff surgery but nonetheless, the rehab was a bear- wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Results have been mixed but I’m glad I did it as I had no other choice because of the piercing pain. Pain is now gone but my range of motion is significantly restricted but I can live with that at my age.

I’m due for a shoulder replacement when I cant take the pain/inconvenience anymore. A few years back at 48 shoulder froze up…and what do you know? Had me some bone on bone in the shoulder. So PT, stretching, and light lifting makes things manageable - but my orthopedists and the the 2nd and 3rd opinions have said —shoulder replacement is in your future. Technology is moving fast so hold out as long as you can. I’m about held out.

One on each shoulder for me. Rotator cuff repair and ground down the end of the clavicle. The last one my bicep was reattached and moved outside the joint. It feels different and has taken five years to feel pretty normal. Fairly regular dry needling had helped with tightness

After 30 years of owning a physical therapy practice, I have never heard of anyone needing 6 shoulder surgeries.
I would highly recommend a new ortho.

Dr. Paylor at Piedmont Ortho did my first 3. Really liked him. He retired a few years ago. Dr. Matt Roberson at Blue Ridge did my last 2. Great guy. Just passed away at 50. Dr. Erik Johnson at Carolina Ortho in Gastonia is doing this one tomorrow. He has a great reputation.

Piedmont Ortho did my rehab when Dr. Paylor did my repairs. I had rehab at Baptist Easley's ortho rehab center when Roberson did them. I haven't decided on this one but will probably let Carolina Ortho do it if insurance will cover it there.

Thanks. I’m always curious. I’m not a fan of hospital/physician owned practices. At all. Particularly ATI. In my experience, the best outpatient PT is given by PT owned private practices (though they’re not all good).
Just know that wherever you end up for therapy, if they are not pushing you hard, don’t hesitate to go somewhere else. Don’t let the doc tell you that you have to go where he sends you.

I tend to agree. I’ve gone to Premier PT in Greer for several things and liked them. I’ve also gone to a PT specializing in dry needling for various pains.

Had elbow tendentious a couple of years ago. Tried everything injections, pt etc. Finally ortho doc sent me to PT that does dry needling. Within 2 months it was all better. Big fan.

I feel for you brother. I've had 2 on my right shoulder, and I do not intend to injure it again. It took a year to get over it the last time when I was about 52 years old.

How long are you in a sling with the rtc surgery? I had a replacement and was in a sling for 6 weeks...it was my dominant arm and my writing arm of course!

It depends on the severity of the tear, but most people are immobilized for 4-6 weeks.

Good luck. Never experienced it myself; however my neighbor across the street had his left replaced the day after Christmas. To make things worse, as they were leaving the hospital someone ran a red light and hit them head-on and their vehicle was totaled. His wife uses a walker and is not a lot of help. Him not being able to drive has placed them in a bad spot. I have been trying to help them all I can.

Am rehabbing from rotator cuff (100 detachment) and biceps tendon repair in Jan. Left shoulder. I’m 61 and years of “ growing older, but not up” catching up to me. As you know the rehab is “ slow and steady” … trust and follow the process.

I have had both shoulders done, 14 years ago. My left is torn again, and my right is bothering me. My ortho says my left is torn too bad to repair. Now my right is possibly torn also. I dont know what to do.

I had rotator cuff surgery on my right shoulder after a fall. The surgeon reattathed all four ligaments. On a followup visit, he wanted to increase my range of motion. In doing so, he tore appart all the work he had done, telling me that I would have to have a shoulder replacement. I refused and waited to see what would happen. My cuff/shoulder healed on its own, and my shoulder is as good as new. GOD IS SOOOOOO GOOD!!!

Good luck tomorrow and I hope all goes well for you. I had the surgery about a year and a half ago. I had three anchors installed, bicep reattached and bone spurs removed. The rehab was no issue at all for me, it was trying to sleep and getting my digestive system back in order that bothered me the most. I really had a hard time getting comfortable at night for about six weeks.
I actually enjoyed the rehab as I was pushing myself harder than the therapists were asking me to. I have full flexibility and no pain. I guess I was lucky. Hope you are lucky as well.

is a nerve block in it. I learned this by picking it up while it was in a sling, and it proceeded to come around and knock me in the face! Almost bloodied my own nose. Now, that would have been embarrassing.
