Anyone else watch UT Chattanooga win the NIT Championship last night?

UT Chattanooga!?!?! That is a Southern Conference team that competes with Furman and Wofford.
I had forgotten the NIT championship moved from Madison Square Garden to Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The NIT, which had been held at Madison Square Garden since its inception in 1938, moved its semifinals and championship game to Las Vegas in 2023 and then to Indianapolis in 2024 and 2025.
Apparently, the NIT championship moved away from Madison Square Garden largely due to the high cost of renting the venue and due to the NIT's declining stature and importance.

I caught the ending. Some ending. Yes they were at MSG in the past. Wonder why they don’t move them back. I believe MSG has held high profile games and other pre season tournaments this season. So MSG has success with College Basketball.

I caught some of it. What an ending. Hey, at least Chattanooga gets to hang a championship banner. Personally, I think it's crazy that teams in the past have declined an invite.
Mainly I was wrapped up in the unc/duke baseball game.

I live in Chattanooga and was happy to see the Mocs gut out a win. Could have easily lost it last second if UC-Irvine had more practice with lay-ups.
NIT is in process of making itself a midmajor tourney... only 4 major conference teams this year.

Me as well. Out near Soddy. Interesting how I’ve heard nothing about this.

The NIT is just a TV show anymore

They only had 4,400 people in attendance. Hold it wherever it’s easiest to travel to, and the logistics are best for the broadcast,

While sadly the Coots did, maybe twice. Use to be the premier MBB venue in my hay day (yep, oats).
Our MBB history is Nil in that realm of sports but JK is rooting for us to excel and gotta give him/her/them some orange-colored credit.

That was my hay day too. You had to be a great team to get an invite. What I think so many miss about our lack of history is that we had some really great teams... you just couldn't get in.
Had today's format been around in our day, we would have had a trophy case. That's why I disagree with stating this is our golden hour in basketball. You can't compare the two.

Congrats to them. They won the tallest midget contest. Sadly BrownL can't beat the Morehead's and advance past the first round of that tourney either.

I was at MSG in 2014 when Clemson played SMU in the semi-finals of the NIT.

I watched Clemson build a 12-point halftime lead only to completely blow it in the second half en route to a 6-point loss.

we are also good at burying ourselves by 12-15 in the first half and staging the vallaiant late comeback to fall just short. McNeese and Louisville are recent examples

It was a good G League game. I'm sure some on those teams will be hearing from agents from several Power 4 schools soon.
