just watching the quality of line play in the CFP and looking at our current offensive line recruiting, Matt Luke has his job cut out for him to get Clemson back to an elite status. These lines are huge and much more talented (including Georgia) compared to ours. Since we seem to struggle getting highly rated offensive linemen, should Clemson consider trying to convert defensive linemen to offense? Could this be a way to make up some ground? Hopefully Dabo has a plan which included Matt Luke for a reason. Just don’t want ML to get frustrated or leave. Go Tigers🐾!

I just saw some blurb about Georgias incoming offensive line class

And the size of the human beings that they have recruited is absolutely mind-boggling, and they dwarf our offense of line. So I agree as good as Luke is, if our recruiting does not improve with offensive alignment, I don’t know that we can ever get back to where we want to be, regardless Who is under center

Here is a question for you, how many times will our offensive lineman face the Mammoth offensive line of Georgia? Or any other offensive line?
Hmmmm.

Hopefully more often in the near future once we can figure out a way to leave this sh**y basketball conference. Besides, how on earth is the fact that we’ll only play good teams 2-3 times a year in any way an excuse to have sub par line play?
I feel like Dabo made a great choice with Luke. And I think it signals a pivot from the Chad Morris philosophy of smaller, more agile OL to keep up with his lightning HUNH offense. Those OLs are built for more quick throws and misdirection runs. And it’s not to say we didn’t have some good OL during the ‘16-19 run, but the game is always changing and you change with it.
To me going to a guy like coach Luke means moving to a larger OL set to impose its will and give more time to let plays develop.

If your goal is to win NC, and be the best, then you better be similar. We are not. When you struggle against the likes of NCSU and Miami, then yeah, LIKE DABO JUST SAID, it needs improvement..

Clemson struggled against mid level acc teams during their n.c. run. No team rises above others so much that the season is a cakewalk.

UGA lost in the trenches. UM's Defensive line played a lot harder than Jawja's. Milroe looked like the answer when playing in the SEC championship. Last night not so much.

Said Bama had 4 over 350lbs.
Bama and Michigan was one of the best games as far as the lines that I have seen in a while.
Harbaugh mentioned it would be won in the trenches and dang it was impressive to me anyways.

For the record Bama’s oline stunk all year.
Pretty well documented and on full display last night
Crazy talent at skill positions saved them from 2-3 more loses this year

winning years under Dabo Swinney. What we had was exceptional QB play that made the O-Line play good enough to win. And, with good coaching, we are not far off from that again. Our guys do well at times, they just do not sustain that for a whole game most times.

We had a sufficient OL in those years. 2020 we started to see the decline. 2020 TE had to make things happen on his own and TL did a decent job of hiding our inefficiencies.

Yeah, if not for Tnetters, Dabo might not be stupid enough to recruit a DT and move him to OL. THAT surely will go over well and nobody would portal out, right? I think this is brilliant - let’s just randomly assign positions based on size only. And since you are so smart, you can pick first… Be careful, this type of suggestion lowers the average IQ on here to a frightening level. Bring in your dogs, these idiots have driving privileges!

Why do you think he is happy with it? He fired the o line coach. He obviously knows there is a problem.

For kicks I compared Washington's OL to ours. Looks like Clemson's OL is slightly larger.
Washington looks like the team to beat and have the best offense which is why I chose them. (I suspect our OL is more highly recruited than Washington btw).
Clemson / Offensive Line
Tristan Leigh 6'6 - 315 Colin Sadler 6'6 - 310 Will Putnam 6'4 - 310 Harris Sewell 6'4 -315 Blake Miller 6'6 -310
Washington / Offensive Line
Troy Fautanu 6'4 - 317 Nate Kalepo 6'6 - 327 Parker Brailsford 6'2 - 275 Julius Buelow 6'8 - 313 Roger Rosengarten 6'6 - 300
Clemson average Height/Weight = 6.52 / 312lbs
Washington average Height/Weight = 6.52 / 306lbs
Clemson's current OL is probably bigger, and more highly touted than during our NC run from 2015-2018 (if you believe the tape). What's been missing is coaching, and maybe we need to tweak our strength & conditioning a little, but we aren't small. Our OL has been bad for a while, but this is why I'm skeptical of anyone who says we're "small, "slow", "not talented enough", etc.... Recruiting rankings and the offer sheets disagree.
According to the tape Clemson isn't small. And in the case of Washington our OL isn't remotely small.

Great points all the way around.
These guys are BIG, and the more highly rates ones are generally more athletic. Even teams like Duke, Wake, Kentucky, etc...have big linemen now. But, most of the tip-tier guys that end up at big name schools tend to be more athletic.
Every time I see someone on TNET calling our OL small I scratch my head. Of course listening to some TNET posters you get the idea that Clemson boys naturally look bigger/faster when we win.
On paper, Clemson's 2023 OL depth and size is more impressive than what Robbie Caldwell coached when we were playing for NC's. And it's not really that close.
TNET seems to overreact when we lose games and people immediately pull the "lack of talent card" out. Media personalities do it all the time too....claiming there's "no talent" on Team X until that very same team rips off 8 wins in row and then same guy calls them "so talented" 9 weeks later. Notice how the smart guys like Herbie, Pollack, etc...don't do it?
Funny how good coaching makes your team look more talented. Check out Washington's team talent vs ours....then again, we don't need to.
We're in good hands with Matt Luke.

By Michigan's Dline all night. And they recruit OL very well. Linemen are extremely hard to evaluate and develop. Let's give Matt Luke more than a month to work with the boys and recruits some studs shall we?

looked terrible against USF earlier this year - I saw that in person.
And that's the best oline money can buy - and bammer recruiting olineman is as easy as it gets.

It's gonna take several recruiting class by Luke before any significant progress is made. The line play is abysmal, and coaching can only do so much.
