Most of the top NFL O lineman have similar stories. Ever wonder why the NFL is littered with o lineman from unheralded schools. Kid is 6'8 athletic and has good footwork from a basketball background HUGE upside definitely worth a scholly.

Fact!
As much as I don't really care for his antics, Urban Meyer said something I found interesting about OL. Basketball background or a kid who maybe played a bit of soccer who is used to moving their feet laterally. They also, he mentioned, "tend to have good bend"!
This will end up being a great pickup; to your point!
OL is by far the hardest position to project to the next level. Why?
1. was the kid just bigger than everyone else and looked dominant?
2. has the kid plateaud in terms of frame; i.e. they just matured early and have no more ceiling.
3. if they did rely on just being bigger; how much technique did they actually learn/rely on?
4. a kid that wasn't as big "HAD to learn good technique.
5. filling out late isn't the worst thing; because you learn the game from a technical standpoint 1st.
6. your speed and leverage are likely better if you couldn't just overpower opponents.
Good pickup Austin! He does not need to go anywhere. Especially because this will be what; the start of year II. Nah!

Not sure why I can't TU this but definitely spot on. I remember a couple commentaries talking the exact thing about basketball. Said you're skilled in switching off defenses and obviously moving laterally. You also have to be quick in decision making in basketball too. If he can slide and pick up the rusher from the disguised defensive schemes, then he can definitely help us out. Playbook can be taught, instinct really can't. He may very well be a bust but I'd bet on him being a starter.

This is exactly what; I have been trying to tell people. Yeah, some 5-star out of H.S. gets drafted and maybe even do well. But, look at the majority of them though.
Late bloomers who filled out in college.
You have to project what the kid will look like after you put some weight/speed/agility on them. Recruiting services are only pretty-much looking at: "who's ready now"!
It's like people don't pay attention to the schools these OL come from during NFL games or something, geez!
Again, I love this pick up for the Tigers!

be leaving after this year as things stand right now. Austin signed a tremendous class in his first year. He’s got a good commitment to replace the only guy we are definitely losing - Putnam. There are 6-7 months left in this recruiting cycle. We won’t know if any other OL plan on leaving with eligibility left until Dec/Jan so we are sort of oversigning at this position if we take another commitment now
