Cat on a tin roof, dogs in a pile,
Nothin' left to do but smile, smile, smile!!!!

And I miss people having incredibly distinct accents like this.

I was married 20 years and still fell in love with a woman over the phone.

She worked in sales at Pleasant hardware and sold us the doors at the G'vill Memorial project. Those doors were complicated being different oak veneers and having such a variety of hardware so we spent some serious time on the phone and became more than friends, unfortunately.

It was the classing 'we were drawn together,' situation. Finally, after an invite to come to their offices I visited her. She was flugly but it made no difference to our attraction to one another.

We spoke for a long while until we shared much personal history. The epiphany for both was instant upon learning that we were raised just 15 miles apart in E TN. We fell in love with home and the remembrances of our accents and those of our families from whence they came. Our stories were those of family and home which served as a visit to our childhood.

I learned to use my accent carefully during my college years and while working with professionals but I wish I'd have carried on without trying to hide myself from people. That's why I use the old words here, why I use them often to make people know that I'm not ashamed to be a hillbilly or redneck. I simply don't see them in any negative light. I respect those of others too. I don't prefer them to mine but still, I'd rather a man not hide who he is. There's no fellowship in it.

If she's a hollerer, she'll be a screamer.
If she's a screamer, she'll get you arrested.

Jimmy Stewart is a bonafide American patriot and hero...

He had every career reason to stay in Hollywood during WWII but volunteered for the Army Air Corps at the age of 32 (much to his agents chagrin I imagine).

After a short spell in the service of the PAO, Stewart did not want to continue being a behind the lines Airmen. Stewart earned his pilots wings and convinced his commander to send him to the 445th Bomber Group in England in 1943. From there, Stewart flew 20 combat missions over mainland Europe in a B-24 liberator. Brother - the combat those men saw in the daylight bombings over Europe from 1943 to 1945 was absolutely BRUTAL.

Jimmy Stewart continued his Hollywood career after the war but remained in the reserves where he ended up retiring as a Brigadier General (one star).

The world would be a better place if we had more men like Jimmy Stewart...

By the way - I'm currently reading "Masters of the Air" which is the book the upcoming Hanks/Spielberg limited series on Apple+ is based on. "Masters of the Air" tells the history of the US 8th Air Force in WWII and I can highly recommend this book. I only hope that the upcoming series does justice in telling the story of the extreme bravery and brutality faced by the men who flew these daylight bombing missions over Europe in WWII.

Still miss my dog who passed away in 2018. Makes me sad that she didn't live long enough to enjoy our house out in the country. She would have loved it here. Probably would've spent all day being a yard rug.

Knowing that dogs, like people, sometimes die suddenly, I appreciate my mutts every day and ensure that they're happy and loved. Once they're gone, the only consolation is that they had a great life and it's because of you. And some of the great parts of your life is because of them.
