Interesting that Catawba and MB with 1300 will be 5A but North Augusta and Richland with 1400 will be 4A. Looks like they've already added in the new multiplier rules with Christ Church and StJoe move to 4A along with Daniel.

Speaking from a North Augusta stand point I believe the decision to keep them in 4A is due to travel. By keeping them in 4A the region will be all Aiken County region . NA, Midland Valley, Aiken , South Aiken and Fox Creek. All schools are within 20 miles of each other . If North Augusta went to 5A their whole region would be in the Columbia area one hour or more in travel . Other sports like baseball , softball, basketball, etc would be traveling longer distances during the week for region games . I did read in the SCHSL press release that travel would or could be a factor.

Expect numerous appeals between now until mid February when the region assignments are finalized.

You can't reasonably expect these schools with a student body in the 1500 and 1600 range to compete against these large schools with enrollments of 2000 and above.

Multiplier rule is the best thing to happen to South Carolina High School sports in a long time. What Christ Church, St Joes, Oceanside Collegiate, Gray Military types are doing is not even remotely acceptable within the framework of the SCHSL
Providing 20,000 in tuition to a top level OL, WR, LB prospect to attend your institution and then going out and playing the likes of McCormick, Ware Shoals, Calhoun County, etc.... is an absolute gas.
What is funny is Gray Collegiate stated a year ago "we will play anyone". They then get the multiplier applied and go into 4A. Now they are the first team to start their appeal.
Private schools want to rig the system in their favor, and finally the SCHSL stepped up to put an end to this crap.

Who exactly does that information come from? SJ does not ever pay for recruits. They give tuition assistance to members of the student body who apply and qualify for it. Period. There is no fund for athletic recruitment.

It's the typical misinformed take on the situation that I normally see. People get mad at something someone else who was also misinformed told them. No one is paying anyone's tuition for charter schools, because charter schools aren't private schools.
Funny part of it is that the "Gray Collegiate" rule ended up bumping up two of the biggest whiners, Newberry and Keenan to a higher class..

Charter schools should also have to use a multiplier.

I'm fine with the multiplier.

It was always going to go that way, but I don't think the charters should have to count middle schoolers in the count.

Research the new statute that’s being proposed basically dismembering the SCHSL and replacing all the members with political hacks. Snuck in a proposal that private/charter schools can’t be treated differently.
Follow the $. I don’t care what your political bent is, but the private/home school crowd has bought the sc legislature.

Private should be treated different than Charter. But that's not the argument.

top teams that keep winning. The two teams that play for the championship at their level move up to the next level. The winner moves up for four years and the runner up for two years. If during that that period they don’t play for the new level championship, they move back down.
Kinda similar to what’s done in amateur USTA tennis rankings. If you are a 3.5 level player and you keep winning (and beat 4.0 player) you move up a level.
Easy to measure and no math multiplier involved!
