Grammar gestapo: utmost vs. upmost

I suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder so I will no longer let this slide unpunished...
When a person decommits from a school but wants to show a bit of respect, they say "I have the upmost respect for Coach and the program."
No, you have the utmost respect.
Upmost describes a physical location, like the upmost part of kite hill.
Utmost is the correct word when describing a great degree of respect or admiration.
Not that anyone cares...

Is "decommit" even a legit word?

Seems contradictory. If you "decommit" were you ever really "committed" in the first place?
I'm not divorced. My first wife decommitted from me. No, that doesn't work.

I had to smile when I read this post. I had to write a paper for sophomore grammar when I was at Clemson. It came back with a big red circle around "upmost" - my booboo!!

This is the first time I've ever seen or heard of upmost. Sounds like a non word like "reoccur" or "irregardless" but I was not an English major. Or minor.

While reading this all I can think about is the numerous articles that have come out in the last week about how internet grammar poets have been deemed rude and aholes.
