The lovingits headed to Philly and DC this weekend

For a week of vacation/history stuff. I’d like to thank our travel agent for setting up most of the trip. I insisted on setting up our own motel. And we are in for a delight. Apparently we are super close to a “space needle” and “fish market”. I think I hit it out of the park with this one. Mrs. Lovingit’s gonna be all over me after this.

Some things they sure can't get right. They got some big Bell up there that got a big crack in it years ago, and they thought they could fix it by just putting a BOLT in the crack.
That's Yankee ingenuity for you!
A good Southern country boy welder woulda had that thing fixed right over a hunnert years ago.

Liberty Bell is well worth reading ahead of your trip. It will give you more appreciation for it when / if you do see it.
I seem to recall that there were plans afoot at some point in time to "recast" the bell after the infamous crack first appeared in 1824. But, after a lot of back and forth, it was decided to leave it as is, with the crack just "stablizied" by that carriage bolt and nut holding the lower end of the crack in place. That makes it probably the most famous single bolt in Amurican History.

mention of a word. The word was "Philly".
The random thought was, the Phillies used to have a third baseman you might have heard of, name of Mike Schmidt. Now, I hated that guy at the time, because, at that same time, for at least part of it, my Atlanta Braves had a third baseman that had a pretty good run for a couple of years, named Bob Horner. When the All Star voting was done each year, I was highly P!SSED that Mike Schmidt would beat out Bob Horner at third base.
Looking back now, I kinda have to ad-mo-mit, the voters may have gotten that right.

I have not yet made it there. A fun note (at least for me) was 90% of my boot camp boys came from there. Great boys, had no idea what grits were, put sugar in and then complained.
Who is the top American? If it aint Benjamin Franklin, surely he is in the running. If not for Ben, and a few of his ilk, --> no USA.
