Funny how the cries for Leggett's replacements

Apr 22, 2012, 11:32 PM

go away when they prove they are not worthy. Corbin is sitting at 18-22 this year. Pawlowski is 21-19 and coming off getting swept by SC.

Sully is the only one we should consider in the future, when Jack is ready. However, Corbin seems to be pick of TNet which I have never understood.

Everybody don't love that smoldering heat in 100% humidity in Florida. Especially when your job is out side the entire Summer. An up state summer is a lot easier on a person in the summer than any where in Florida. Just Sayin!!!

I find it funny that you ask a question sounding as if you know something no one else does and when someone asks you don't answer them.

Instead in the time it took for you to type the smart@ss comment you did you could have told everyone what you "know."

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Some of the things said about Clemson to Clemson recruits

Apr 23, 2012, 12:11 PM

took a couple of players from here under some "questionable" circumstances. Some of the players that also played for Sully have made some eye raising comments about his demeanor etc.

It felt like there was some bad blood there and it seemed like Jack took some backhanded shots at Sully, but I don't know if the years have dulled that. Jack does go out of his way to talk up other coaches on his tree, but he doesn't say much about Sully.

But like I said, a lot of rumor.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Some of the things said about Clemson to Clemson recruits

Apr 23, 2012, 12:25 PM

Don't think there was any bad blood. One of the players who chose to follow him to Florida was a catcher who would have platooned or sat the bench had he stayed here. The other was a pitcher who was injured coming out of HS. Don't hold me to this, but as I recall, Jack had to release him from his NLI, which he did. He played some at FLorida, but only a few innings. No point in getting upset just because two players chose to follow a coach to his next gig.

Understand that recruits form a relationship with the recruiting coordinator, not the head coach. Most D1 head coaches do little recruiting other than coming in as the "closer." The recruiting coordinator is THE GUY. When the recruiting coordinator leaves there is always the temptation to follow him. This was even greater when Sully left because the guys who followed him did not have to sit out a year, as they would now.

Yes, the word is that Sully could be a hard nosed ### as a pitching coach, which makes him little different than any other D1 coach.

Re: Funny how the cries for Leggett's replacements

Apr 23, 2012, 7:33 AM

We still have to keep playing well, but I have been in defense of Jack this entire season and we have turned things around these last few weeks. Bats get hot and anything can happen. There is only one thing that is definitely true about baseball and it's coaches...You can't judge a team to early!! I prefer to hold judgement on our season until it's all said and done.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Funny how the cries for Leggett's replacements

Apr 23, 2012, 8:50 AM

We've turned things around the past 2 weeks?

Teams we have played that are good...

NC State- 1-2
UGA- 0-1

Maryland is Maryland they are not a good baseball program.

a few weeks ago...of course you probably weren't.

Our record as of March 27th stands at 13 wins and 6 losses. That seems better to me than where we started the season. Correct?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Funny how the cries for Leggett's replacements

Apr 23, 2012, 12:16 PM

Sigh there is a difference between criticism and "dogging" I have said numerous times Jack is a good coach but not a great coach. Once again you try and put words in my mouth that I have never said. I have not once dogged Jack. I have criticized him with factual and statistacl backed claims. That is NOT dogging. Just because I dont worship the ground he walks on doesnt mean I am "dogging him" or I "Hate him" two things you have accused me of doing.

I want a coach with a track record of teaching good fundamental baseball. It is NOT my job to find that person. I have never stated it was my job. I have only looked objectively at facts and statistics to state that Jack isnt getting it done at the level that Clemson Baseball SHOULD strive to be at.

Re: Funny how the cries for Leggett's replacements

Apr 23, 2012, 2:53 PM

OK if you could pick a coach who would it be???

Your facts are weak because you leave out winning percentages. Name another coach in college baseball that has took every player to the CWS that has stay all 4 yrs.

How's that for facts

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Funny how the cries for Leggett's replacements

Apr 23, 2012, 2:57 PM

Winning % is irrelevant when inflated by wins over teams you SHOULD beat. I care more about beating great/elite teams look at that winning % the past 5 years against top 25 teams.

My facts are only "weak" because they dont meet your defender agenda. They are not weak to someone who understands the game and knows that fielding % and wins against top 25 and championships mean more than sweeping Duke and Maryland.

Re: But he's not a great coach? Maybe HOF but not great

Apr 23, 2012, 3:03 PM [ in reply to Re: Funny how the cries for Leggett's replacements ]

In 2006, the Tigers captured the Atlantic Division title with a 24-6 record and then won the ACC Tournament Championship. The Tigers also won regional titles in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, and 2010. Leggett guided Clemson to the College World Series in 2000, 2002, 2006, and 2010 as well.

Seven of the 18 years have seen the Tigers finish in the top 10 of all three major polls, and there has been at least one top-25 final ranking in 15 of the 18 seasons under Leggett.

If you're gonna criticize Jack at least come up with some suggestions of people you would like to see replace him or people on his staff.

"I want a coach with a track record of teaching good fundamental baseball. It is NOT my job to find that person. I have never stated it was my job. I have only looked objectively at facts and statistics to state that Jack isnt getting it done at the level that Clemson Baseball SHOULD strive to be at."

As a fan of Clemson Baseball it is. I am sorry that I have higher expectations than you.

Also it is not a cop out. I dont know enough about available coaches on the market to answer that question. I would love Sully but I dont think that would happen. I do however know that our current coach isnt getting it done.

Re: Can always count on Clemtiger117 to comment

I criticize with factual evidence to back up my claims.

Here is my answer hire Kevin O'Sullivan. If that doesnt happen then its not my job to find the next guy in line. That would be TDP's job. I do know that doing the same #### thing over and over and over again expecting different results is the definition of insanity.
