If ESPN is in charge of this expansion stuff...

....or at least a major player in the discussions, then it would make perfect sense for them to at least be including voiding the ACC deal as an option.
If ESPN wants teams to go to SEC rather than B1G, then one tool they could use would be to void the current deal or at least trade it in for something the teams not going to either SEC of B1G could live with.
I have no idea if ESPN is even involved in the discussions, and if so, how. But, just look at this hypothetical situation purely as an example. Do not take it as rumor or even speculation.
1. SEC wants FSU, Miami, Clemson and UNC. 2. B1G wants GT, UVA and Pitt. 3. Wake, NCSU, Duke, VT, UL, Cuse and BC get left out.
The 7 teams going would be more than happy to void the deal. So, what could ESPN offer the remaining 7 to get them to go along with it? "If you agree to void the deal, we will give you...."
I have no idea what is going on. But, I have no doubt that TV deals are a huge part of the information included in the decision making process. And, I have no doubt that ESPN is involved in talking about TV deals. Therefore, it seems reasonable to conclude .... (you fill in the blank).

FSU should probably get left out, they don’t bring anything

in terms of athletics. UCF would probably be a bigger draw for the SEC than FSU.

I was just about to post this. It is 100% ESPN behind it. When Oklahoma and Texas joined the SEC, other leagues hit ESPN with cease letters. They were trying to get the sec to poach other teams.

A couple of thoughts:
- ESPN & FOX SPORTS are the financial facilitators (with mega-sponsors) of these realignment moves. To your point, ESPN has a bully pulpit. And their poor ratings and lower ad dollars certainly provide the realignment motivation IMO. - My UVA booster buddy is out in Vegas this week is hearing the Clemson, FSU, UNC, UVA speculation. - So how aggressively hostile are the B1G and SEC to each other right now? Is this an arms race or a dissection of the prime cuts? - Agree with you UVA and Pitt are naturals for B1G. Some reports are UNC prefers SEC and wants academic power UVA with them. UNC holds cards for SEC or B1G. GaT to B1G also makes sense. - The Pac 12 and Big 12 commissioners will certainly have interest in NCSU, VaT, Louisville and more. - Wake, Duke, Cuse, BC??
