I think we are giving them way too much credit.
They had the 101st ranked defense coming into this game. They barely survived against an awful BC team and they needed OT to beat a mediocre Clemson team.
They really aren’t as good as some of you are making them out to be. The truth is that Clemson is worse than what you want to accept.

Let’s just look at things objectively.
QB: Cade has improved, no doubt
RB: Shipley and Mafah lack homerun ability
WR: One of the worst units in the ACC
TE: Brinny has been a disappointment
OL: Average once again
DE: No consistent edge rusher
DT: Great
LB: Great
CB: Wiggins is a star, but our #2 is suspect
S: Phillips and Mickens are average
It’s no secret why this team is 2-2. We aren’t developing like we used to. We aren’t evaluating talent like we used to. And it’s because we have a bunch on inexperienced coaches on staff.

Nobody can objectively say this roster is as good as it was from 2015-2020
It’s much worse. Meanwhile, our opponents got a lot better through the portal.
It’s fine not using the portal as long as you are developing and evaluating at a high level. Clemson isn’t doing that anymore.
That’s what’s so frustrating about Dabo. The systemic problems are obvious. He hired inexperienced coaches which led to a drop in development and evaluation. To make up for that drop, you can utilize the portal, but he doesn’t.

You’re basing all of this off recruiting rankings though. Look at the product on the field. Beaux Collins and Adam Randall were both highly rated recruits. Do you believe either of them are getting drafted though?

You didn't answer whether you believed they were getting drafted. I can make this more simple just by using Clemson WRs in the past. We'll go back to 2011. Let me know where you would rank Beaux and Randall amongst this group.

I count ZERO that make the field now.
The only one we have that plays is Tyler Brown and he was a 3 star who we weren’t recruiting until we missed on other targets.

Many of us have been talking about DE for some time.
Our freshman look good so that's positive. We should have never let it come down to depending on freshman to come in to make a huge impact on the DL.

It's not player development and it's not evaluation. It's that elite players don want to come like they did 5 or 6 years ago. They simply want to go other places.

Nailed it. Developing players has ground to a halt, starting with the WR room and spilling into DBs and running backs. Shipley was better last year no doubt.

I wouldn't necessarily agree that we are mediocre. I still think we are a good team that had some horrendous turnovers at the wrong times that cost us 2 games. New QB, new offense, we had to expect some growing pains and unfortunately, that has turned out to be the case.
I really do believe we will get better as the season progresses, and have a chance to be special next year, after going through a challenging transition this season.
