Simple we need a new strength and conditioning staff. We have added quality coaches quality facilities and quality recruits. We lose the physical battles. Either correct the problem or continue to be mediocre.

Some of it may be Strength and cond. But mostly its about heart and a will to win. I think that is Clemsons problem on the o line

Dead wong. Mental toughness comes from physical strength and toughness, which we haven't had for years. Keep Batson and expect the same results. We'll be crushed by LSU.

You are absolutely right. We will get whipped physically in what is likely to be a humiliating defeat. And yet, Batson will remain, enshrined apparently by Coach Swinney. What is he thinking?

Which game were you watching? It wasn't the secondary that got to Taj over and over. It wasn't the secondary that protected a backup quarterback well enough to throw for more than 300 yards. As tough as Clemson wants to think it is, as strong in the trenches as it thinks it is, the cold hard truth is it's not.

the tigers are into a second defensive coordinator and the numbers are still terrible----does one blame the position coach--defensive backs coach or does this go beyond the position coach to the head coach? just a thought!!

Well just maybe If. LSU's O & D lines shove our guys around like little boys. Just maybe Dabo will be forced to tell Batson that if he can't get our guys Big, Fast, and strong by changing the way he now does things. That he(Dabo)will have to ask him (Batson) to move out to make room for the new guy. Batson will fight Dabo up the chain of command. But I think Dabo will win with the new AD. Lets hope so anyway. Batson has been at Clemson for a very very long time....

Batson does not recruit, he only has the material that Dabo and others bring in! Until 2008 we were not recruiting enough DT or OL. We had 5 true DTs playing this year all freshmen or red-shirt sophomores. We had one senior OL, 2 juniors one transfered from DL this year. Next year I expect we will have 2 seniors and possibly a true 2 deep on the OL.. something we have not had in a decade. We may add 2 more DTs in this recruitng class (1 comitted now). TB did not recruit size, he recruited speed, so we got beaten in the trenches, Dabo is truning that around but it takes time to recruit the guys we have needed for a long time. We have improved to the point that VaTech and GaTech are not pushing us around anymore like they were a few years ago. LSU and the current SC DL are on another level and we will have to play better than we played against SC to win in Atlanta.

Yea, I can see Clemson even leading at half, and then just getting overwelmed in the 2nd half by LSU. We don't match up well with more physical teams.

Swinney? Smash mouth football?
Dec 3, 2012, 8:55 PM

I've haven't heard him say it but I would find it hard to believe he wants to build a team of slobber-knockin' players. If he does believe in it, he needs to get started with that strategy!! We can play tough, but I haven't seen SEC down and dirty tough. Yet.

We can take these guys. Odd are, they take us likely and we catch them off guard. They've never seen an offense like ours, and their O isn't even as good as SC.
Let's go guys. I don't care how you feel about the program or Dabo or whatever your doubts may be. We gotta win this game. Let's stop being negative and get behind our Tigers 110%.

You guys are crazy. Batson is as good as it gets. We need to start with recruiting and developing the beasts that the SEC does. Difficult to do with academic standards of the ACC. Second, having spent a Christmas dinner with a physician that is close to football is the SEC's ability to sneak in performance enhancing drugs in the off season and the ability of colleges to determine who gets tested and when. Point and case Lacy's sheer size difference from GA to college. As well as other past RB's that piqued at Bammer won college trophy's and aren't doing squat in the NFL.

Batson is probably a great guy but to state he is as good as it gets is laughable. ALL the big-time programs are running S&C based off the best model - Gale Hatch. His developmental programs are the biggest difference the SEC teams have. ND, Penn State (who hired USuC's S&C coach in Feb as he totally turned around the dirt pecker's program), MI, OSU, etc are all changing to this philosophy.
Batson has been here since West was our HC. If you took a poll of all football fanatics around the country, you would not find two fans who would put Clemson's program in a "tough, physical" category. It all starts and ends with the S&C program as these coaches are with the players year round. If Dabo continues to turn a blind eye to this, we'll be stuck where we are. At the very least, hire some consultants to do a thorough, non-partisan evaluation of the S&C. Heck, we have the highest paid staff in the country so what's another $100K to put this issue to bed.

However I do not believe we have to win the score, we have to at least match the physical play, that would be a huge step. Doesn't take better recruits to play physical - it takes leadership that demands it, it's a culture and an attitude that we have not shown yet. Please figure it out before this game or it will be embarrassing....again.

We have to bring our A game and gain some respect in ATL. We can beat this LSU team, but we need to be clicking on all cylinders in order to do so. Our lines will have to be ready to battle it out for all 4 Q's.
If we get stepped on and lose badly, then I agree it's time for Batson to go, we need to be stronger...

My hat is off to Crump for having the guts to point out the obvious Dabo/Bowden critiques reqarding Clemson's continued lack of toughness and lack of ability to beat good, non-con, big-boy teams.
Dabo beats up on overrated ACC weaklings but Dabo is an absolutely pathetic 0-6 against non-con AP Top 25 Final Poll. (Bowden was 1-8, Danny was 5-7). Dabo has NEVER beaten a good team, unless you consider overrated ACC teams good. That's why the national perception of Clemson is, correctly, that Clemson is an overrated ACC team that can't hang with the big-boys of the real conferences-- or even teams like WVU & USF.
It's so rare to see any critique (no matter how obvious) on sunshiny T-Net. I hope this is a step towards more fair and balanced coverage. Over the years, on the very rare occasions that T-Net posted any critique (Bowden, Napier, Powell) a coach was fired shortly thereafter. I wonder if this is the AD letting us know that Batson will retire if LSU pushes Clemson around like real teams have done since Bowden arrived.

Differ on bowl springboarding. WVU debacle had little impact
Dec 4, 2012, 12:25 PM

Clemson absolutely disgraced itself about as badly as one could imagine on the national stage with a record-setting Orange Bowl beat-down at the hands of a team from the lowly Big East. But it didn't seem to have much impact on recruiting or this season. Surely it had some impact, but not much. I think a loss to LSU would have a negligible negative impact because it's expected, but a win would have some positive impact.
