However, the guy I had paint my interior office doors with oil based paint, took them off and laid them on horses (neigh). Painted one side, waited a day or two, flipped them, then painted the other side. Waited a day or two, then hung them.

The PO painted all of my baseboards with oil based gloss white. They are very glossy, but they are also only like 2" high, so it doesn't really matter.

Last one was fiberglass, and what I thought would be a simple hit with a scotchbrite pad and then paint it paint turned into peeling all of the paint off the door and then painting it.
Protip: Latex paint doesn't stick well to a fiberglass door.

If you don't take it off the hinges and have a long time to let it dry, paint the edges where it meets the weatherstriping first, so maybe it won't stick when you close it.

on the hinges. It sucked, the paint job kinda sucked, but it worked (from a distance). You could see the shiddiness once you got up close to it but most people wouldn't notice it. We also lived back in the woods you see, the woman and the kids and the dogs and me.
Sold that house.

you folks that have never been introduced to the miracle of Plasti-Dip, you don't understand what you are missing out on.
I have plasti-dip'ed my mailbox, the front grill and side mirrors of my Jeep, 911 house sign, lamppost, and other things. I may do my front door when it ever needs it, it can and has been done (see below). You can paint dang near anything that exists with this stuff. and IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, you can peel it off and do something else. No mess, no nasty paint stripping.
If you doubt the durability of it, my Jeep grill has lasted 150,000 miles and almost 10 years. I have spot-touched it up just a couple of times in those ten years from rocks hitting it. Good as new.
