You would think this would be exactly how Sankey sees it too. And if that is the case, he has to be getting updates on how our GOR exit plan is going so he is not caught flat footed. The only thing other than the GOR that the SEC has to be concerned about is not diluting the existing SEC team’s payout amount in the process. That is where ESPN or perhaps some other media entity may come into he picture too in order to make it happen.
ESPN has a vested interest in not losing TV rights to Clemson and FSU for sure. That would kill their ACC viewership and if these two teams go to the B1G ESPN is SOL. If they go to the SEC, ESPN just shifts where the $$ comes from.
I’m sure the behind the screens drama is epic right now. There’s blood in the water.

And I quote from the article: "The ACC’s waffling brotherhood and third-rate media rights deal is not the SEC’s problem"
And then this:
"FSU and Clemson, in particular, make sense for the SEC’s identity"
What are we waiting for??

Paying $120 mil plus 0 dollars in media rights revenue until 2036.
It was my understanding that if 8 teams exited at the same time it would dissolve the GOR. What it looks like is that the “Magnificent 7” have already been approached by the SEC and B1G, but there isn’t an 8th tram that either want….. go figure.

Louisville may be interested. If so, that's 8.

I know some folks in Louisville. They tell me that the rumblings are that if the ACC can dissolve the GOR, UL would likely move to the Big 12. They'd have natural rivalries with Cincinnati and WVa there.
UL is likely not SEC material and definitely not a BIG candidate at this point.
Clearly, if the GOR thing (and the ACC) goes away the SEC wants Clemson, FSU, Miami, and either UNC or Va Tech.
The obvious wild card is Notre Dame. If they joined a conference, it's most likely the BIG. UVa and Duke could end up in the BIG. They have the academic credentials for it.
NCSU - maybe BIG 12.
Syracuse, BC, and Pitt are likely losers in any ACC implosion.
Ga Tech and Wake - Ga Tech is much more attractive to the BIG with the Atlanta TV market.
Wake may end up as an independent or in the AAC.

the flaw in SEC thinking is sitting around and waiting

I can almost guarantee you that most ACC school Presidents and boards would prefer the B1G 10 because of academic prestige. SEC can sit around on their hands if they want, but if B1G10 wants a southern/mid Atlantic footprint, they might come in and grab UNC, Virginia. I hope they take Clemson and FSU as well.

go to the B1G. Not because of the competition, but because of apathy.

I'd prefer the SEC, but I'm not sure the SEC wants Clemson

I think the B1G might. I'd rather be in B1G10 than Big12 or some picked over ACC. My point was the B1G10 is unlikely to sit on it's hands if they can gets a National footprint and into the Southern recruiting ground.

and people are grossly underestimating the negative impact distance and culture will have on Clemson if we join the B1G.

The SEC is going to protect its southern footprint at all costs. I honestly believe that Clemson will be able to select which conference it wants to join when the time comes.

I don’t think it’s going to matter in the end. Eventually it will be one football mega conference. That’s why all this shuffling seems stupid right now - just get it over with and merge the bigger FB powers into one group and cut out the Vandys, Illinois, etc.
