I love Dabo. He has taken us to heights I never imagined. He seems like a genuinely good man. I have never called for him to be fired. But the trashing of the fan base is just unacceptable.
This crap is toxic in any relationship: romantic, business, friends, family, whatever. It is extremely ungrateful to a fanbase and school that gave him a shot no one else would have, embraced him, and has given him whatever he has asked for.
The criticisms of the program are totally legitimate. No one expects a natty every year but we have looked like garbage against much lesser competition. This is part of a five year decline. He gets paid top five money and runs the program like its a family trucking business.
A few more rants like this an I'll be glad to pack his bags for him. This makes me think everyone in the relationship might need a re-set.

for me becomes, are we willing to fund a man's semi-retirement and also pay hefty salaries to his kids just because he won us a couple of Natties in a different era?
Because that is where we are. It is clear Dabo does not have the hunger to rebuild in today's environment. As David Hood said, when you now look at the top teams, it is clear Clemson is not them. We just don't have the dawgs as a certain former player said Saturday.
How do you get the dawgs? $$$ and the portal. Oh. And freeing up roster spots when players underperform.
I TOTALLY get Dabo's aversion to this. I mean, the best of all time, Saban, pretty much quite over it.
But please don't talk trash about Clemson and its fans when you refuse to play by the current rules.

I am very grateful for what he has done. But he makes $11 million a year and I think we are 14-10 in our last two years against Power 4 teams.
He needs to stop acting like he is God's gift to Clemson. He would not have been able to do what he has done at any other program. Go ask Danny Ford how easy it is to win at other programs.

I hate when people feel the need to say how grateful they are for what he has done. The reason I hate it is because it was done in a time that was 5–6 years ago, but may as well have been 200 years ago with all the changes.
If he was doing what he should be doing, hitting the portal, paying the recruits to the best of his ability. I would not be so annoyed by the site of his face and sound of his whining.
He hasn’t and it’s about to get really ugly around here. Maybe even this year.
I’d say he owes Clemson an apology for taking that money without doing his best in the situation ALL coaches find themselves in. This madness isnt unique to Dat Boy.
He wants to do it his way and if fans don’t celebrate, or dare to question his moral approach to the current landscape, he wants to guilt you with past accomplishments and make empty threats that sunshine pumpers eat up.
I’m so over this guy. Sure it’d be interesting to see if he could get back using the portal and buying recruits, but we know it’s not in his DNA.
I lean heavily toward he needs to go after this season if he doesn’t commit to the modernization of his program.

Dabo won’t push a kid out as long as he attends class, practice, etc. even though he was recruited as a 4 star and is riding the bench in year 3 as a zero star. Plus the NIL money we are wasting on kids that didn’t pan out.
Look at FSU, every year they clean house of the complacent kids and replace w hungry kids. LSU had some major questions on D line and they went to the portal and shored it up.
I understand the whole loyalty thing for a player who is trying but this isn’t the successful model anymore in the NIL age. Also, can’t we get that huge real estate developer that we let transform Clemson to donate a huge NIL fund?

Let your kids play, hiring former players, taking ridiculous walk-ons is great when you're winning.
But when it goes wrong, you look foolish.
This was supposed to be the year that Dabo's method was proven viable. It's failed. Spectacularly. Time to adapt or pack your bags.
He's gone full Tommy Bowden with being overly loyal. You need to cut underperforming coaches and let the best player, play. Pork chop took too long. How many years have our WRs been trash?
On the Pat McAfee show today one of their take aways from the weekend was CLEMSON = DONE. They were running short on time, but they basically said it didn't need anymore explanation. We're done.

On the extreme periphery via the Tiger Paw program over the last year and everything I see points to a very energized Dabo still... it's pretty dang impressive actually to have that level of drive given the level of success.
I say we're lucky to have him!

Hopefully we can get someone that will do better than this.
2021: 10-3 overall, 6-2 ACC (Orange Bowl win) 2022: 11-3 overall, 7-1 ACC (ACC Championship) 2023: 9-4 overall, 4-4 ACC 2024: 11-2 overall, 10-0 ACC (ACC Championship)
Careful what you wish for.

"If Clemson's tired of winning, they can send me on my way. But I'm gonna go somewhere else and coach. I ain't going to the beach."
"Hell I'm 55. I've got a long way to go. I'm just getting going."
To me, that's the type of attitude we need. I was getting a little worried that the fire wasn't there, but at least the fire's there. Love that response to Kornblut.

Sure. Problem is he ain’t winning #### the way he’s running the program.
Having fire is just having fire if you aren’t going to adapt.
Did anything in that presser scream of a man that’s going to change? He’s pissed anyone would have the gall to even question him.

core fan base. Between this kind of rhetoric, the parking garage in Lot 10, and that monstrosity of a condo building towering over Abernathy Park, someone seems intent on pissing off all of the locals/long time fans.
I noticed I got a bunch of calls from IPTAY this year wanting me back, I've even gotten some in the past few weeks trying to sell me multi-game ticket packages. I wonder if that shine is already starting to fade a bit. I personally know 3 fairly big donors who are saying they're done after this year.

He says all the right things (like saying coaches and players have to improve), and all the wrong things (like talking too much about past success).
But it's better than giving short terse answers which would seem even more arrogant.

It isn't Dabo, it's the game, the sport, college football is being ruined. It's why Saban finally hung it up. And Dabo will too, probably. He sticks to his guns, and no one will hire him.
Every advantage Clemson had to sell to recruits is effectively gone/mitigated with NIL, etc. When money is the playing field, the intangibles don't matter, and that's just a sad fact.
More people today are paying a larger portion of their income, to enjoy something that used to be fun, free, or at least cheap, and entertaining. With an equal playing field.
Which brings us full circle, because the Clemson "fan base" is NOT what it used to be. You go to a football game today at Clemson you're sitting among the top 10% of incomes in SC. And SC ain't exactly rich. And those top 10% of people in SC are spending large sums on Clemson, far more than ever before. I'm spending SEVEN TIMES what my dad spent in the late 1990's to watch Clemson football. 10 times what he spent in the 1980's. Same seats, louder speakers and fancy jumbotron screens, but I'm not making 10 times what my father made. My most recent car isn't 10 times more than the car dad drove to Clemson games. Our household income isn't 10 times my parents income. But IPTAY, the IPTAY donation alone is 10x. Tickets, add even more.
And as much as we lament on the skyrocketing expense of college today, Clemson tuition has only gone up 3X in the same time period.

However, he seems to be in total denial if he really thinks this is the best program in the country. It absolutely is not.
We had some great years and some great teams in past years, but the downward trajectory is obvious to anyone paying attention.
"...what's so bad about our program? What's so bad about it?" Overall it's not a horrible program. The history of the program looking back multiple years is excellent.
However, that was then and this is now. He seems to think we're on par with GA, Ohio State, and other highly ranked teams. We are not and trying to gaslight me into believing that is disappointing.
The criticism of where the program is, is to be expected and is fully warranted. If he takes exception to that, perhaps it is time for him to move on.
The fans aren't the problem. The trends are obvious and if Dabo can't even acknowledge that, the trends will continue.

I'm not even sure it will hold up in FCS now, for that matter...both FCS and DIII have NIL and the transfer portal to contend with as well, so it's no real wonder that the mindset of the modern-day college athlete is now completely different. We've all heard "it's a business" for decades, but the money now unreservedly validates that statement. At best, the old-school way of running a program can probably still produce 'winning' seasons and meaningless bowl games, but I just don't think sustained high-level success can be attained under that model.
I'll cap that off by saying that since it was the players who pushed for a business model, then those programs that treat it as such and dump the unproductive to trade up through the portal should not be vilified. They're embracing the current landscape wholeheartedly. We are not. We're still trying to mold great men among a generation that is more interested in quick financial returns and not being prepared for the long haul to be successful adults.
I hate it...it's not the game I've spent my whole life following, and one of the main reasons I have no real interest in the NFL. Sadly, college fans are now the same as pro fans in that we're all cheering for a brand and not a team.
