for those who say that we fans who defend BB and Brownell...

Mar 1, 2013, 8:50 AM

like losing, you couldnt be more wrong!

Nobody who is a true Tiger fan enjoys losing. But people who understand what this program is going through can look at the season as a whole and try to rationalize about things.

When acc play starts and the season wears on, it gets tougher and tougher to win. In years past (see 2010-11 and 2011-12) our record has gotten better. This year, our record as NOT gotten better. The reason is very simple... we are rebuilding and playing with Freshmen and sophmores and 2 seniors who are decent players but not TRUE leaders. The end result, our record is not a reflection of our growth as team.

I can assure you that this team has NOT quit on each other or on coach Brownell. They were playing their a$$es off until the final buzzer last night.

This team is developing and doing everything they can to get better. Next year is year 4 of Coach Brownell. It will be his first year that he has all of his own players. Coach Brownell will find a way to make things work with an inexperienced front court and play a smaller lineup (see UNC and UVA).

So, those of you who cant see past your own noses, all i will say is, just give it time! Coach Brownell and his staff are the right fit for Clemson. They will get this team where it needs to be. it just takes time, it just takes time!

i will say that in the second half, we made some of the more

Mar 1, 2013, 9:00 AM

careless and pitiful passes that i have ever seen a division 1 basketball team make. throwning them off balance, throwing them to nobody in particular, and trying to throw them over more athletic players.

i think we just got tight when we cut the lead to 10 and the crowd got into it a little bit. I think the youth and immaturity showed up when we got in those circumstances.

UNC had almost twice as many players as us on their bench that were almost all bigger than our starting 5. We need to step up our recruiting if we want to make progress. The freshman and sophomores we have now are great players, and will mature greatly between this season and next.

CBB just needs some Jimmy's and Joe's to match his X's and O's!!! CU BBall will be ok!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

correct... and i think hes geting some of those guys...

Mar 1, 2013, 9:02 AM

filer, roper, nnoko, and blossingame are all good players.

also coleman, mcdaniels, and maybe even sullivan will be good players as well.

throw in rooks for next year, we will be just fine!

NEED A BIG MAN AS OUR 3rd SIGNEE, THOUGH!

I would like to buy into what you are saying but

Mar 1, 2013, 9:06 AM

I just can't. We have a poor product on the floor and have had all year and the past couple of years. Also, why is he going to be able to fix it next year magically and not this year? Every team has to adjust during the season due to losing players from the year before or from injuries. We just haven't done that.

Also, I don't recall us really ever getting stronger towards the end of the season. Typically under OP we would limp to the finish line after a promising start.

I just don't see it getting better and it's frustrating as he!!.

last year...

Mar 1, 2013, 9:17 AM

we started 2-4 in the acc and finished 8-8... is that not improvement?

2 years ago, we made the NCAA tournament largely based on our "last 10 games" that the committee thinks so highly of...

i think that shows we have finished strong and gotten better each year under brownell.

Also, most teams dont go through what we have been through this year and have any kind of success. playing so many freshmen and sophmores and losing 2 key players for the year.... find me a team who that has happened to and still was a viable ncaa contender.

Re: last year...

Mar 1, 2013, 9:59 AM

You aren't quite right about last year's record. We started 1-3 or 3-3 over 6 games. Here's the key every season for us...how we start and end though is more of a product of are more games at home or on the road. More games were at home in the second half of the ACC season last year and we managed to get 2 rare road wins last season.

Also, BB had a good group of players from OP that helped. I know we can debate numbers and factors all day, but something has to change at Clemson for basketball. Recruiting has to get better and that has to show on the court. I know...easy to say but the coaches get paid to win.

These comments are more of the same "dreamer" talk I've.....

Mar 1, 2013, 9:07 AM

been hearing forever - how we're "going to get better" and how "somebody's the right fit" type of stuff. I'm sick of hearing about what we're "going" to do instead of talking with pride about what we "have" done.

Your comment about how "it just takes time" is ridiculous. How much time? The past 50+ years haven't been enough time so don't think your guarantees and predictions mean anything.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Honestly, there is no easy answer

Mar 1, 2013, 9:12 AM

Do I think Brownell is good coach who knows more about basketball than all of Tigernet combined? Yep.

Do I think that, in any way, guarantees success? Nope.

I don't know much mroe you can do than give him time and see what happens.

Because, despite your objections, it DOES take time. OF course that doesn't guarantee anything, but we won't know that until the time has elapsed.

It takes time with a real strategic plan......

Mar 1, 2013, 9:17 AM

to become successful. Time alone ends up in almost every case being lost/wasted time.

Our problem with our basketball program is that we've never had a committed strategic plant from the BOT on down to make our program successful (like we currently have with our football program).

We've not currently successful in football by accident. It's because of real planning and commitment. Until we do that with basketball, it will continue to struggle along.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Brownell has NOTHING to do with the last 50+ years....***

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But he and the program are just more of the same - can't....

Mar 1, 2013, 10:30 AM

you see that? Do you see a real strategic commitment to improving our program?

Again, this is nothing but more of the same we've been seeing in the past.

Yes, I hope like you that he will succeed and take the program to where we want it to go but I have no reason to think he will. And it's not because of him that I feel this way - it's because the administration's doing nothing new or different to improve things.
