icing down the built-in bye week before the dung-peckers, this puts 9/6 in a bind.
Assuming scheduling mid-major quality at best, with an opponent with an opening on that date to play away, and an opening in their non-conference schedule, I see only:
Houston
Temple
as matches. Otherwise, Clemson has the difficulty of feathering it in w/ conference games. Of which Clemson may have to compromise w/a potential attractive conference match for TV.

and the CUAD allowing that to occur, I would think (hope) that there has already been discussion with someone to fill that schedule void. It seems late for something like that to happen.

There was likely no penalty for Coastal backing out of the agreement. After the way Coastal did not show up in Columbia this year, I doubt any FBS team want them on the schedule anyway.
The current coach donated a lot of cash to the program so Coastal is no longer desperate for cash as most of the FCS athletic depts are.
