Bowl opponent preference......

Nov 30, 2012, 1:47 PM

For me, here's how I would rank it:

1)Sugar Bowl against Florida

- This would be a tremendous opportunity. I don't buy the whole "Florida will kill us" thing. Being the underdog and then shocking the world would be a good thing. A win would potentially mean a top 10 finish. A loss wouldn't hurt too bad nationally, although we would get a lot of the "did they deserve to be in a BCS bowl?" talk. Regardless, I think this is the best scenario. Whole lot to gain, not much to lose.

2) Chick Fil A Bowl against LSU

- Similar to above, this is all about opportunity. A win against LSU could mean a top 10 or at least top 12 finish. A loss would mean fans would be frustrated to not win a big one, nationally it wouldn't hurt us much due to LSU's stature. A good bit to gain, not much to lose.

* At this point I would assume that the Bama/UGA loser is off the table, as is Texas A&M since they will be in the Cotton Bowl. Also assuming the SCAR rematch is off the table.

3) Chick Fil A Bowl against Mississippi State

- This is a potential scenario that gets us into the territory of being a favorite in the bowl game. Miss. St. is a decent team, but not a great team by any stretch. This is the type of game we would be expected to win. A win would be good for us, but wouldn't move the needle nationally. A loss would be difficult to swallow here, as "SEC" chants would be heard loud and clear. Not much to gain aside from 11 win season, a good bit to lose perception-wise.

4) Chick Fil A Bowl against Vanderbilt

- See the description of the Mississippi State scenario, yet much worse. Nothing to gain, whole lot to lose.

I honestly think that it will be LSU if Clemson ends up in the Chick Fil A. The Cotton will want Texas A&M and the Capital One likely takes the Bama/UGA loser. SCAR goes to the Outback. Miss. State ends up in Gator, unless somehow they switch with SCAR. Vandy goes to the Music City. Ole Miss goes to the Liberty Bowl and pays our recruits to go with them.

Looking forward to hearing good news about a good matchup this weekend. Go Tigers!
