Flashback - The Catch II

Nov 26, 2014, 1:40 PM

I'm tired of all the 5 in a row banter and wanted to take a moment to flash back to an all time great moment in DV: the Catch II. I was a sophomore and sitting in the middle of the Hill on this chilly night. I can remember how silent the Valley (with the exception of the SC corner) fell when USUC scored the go ahead TD by recovering a fumble in the end zone with less than a minute remaining. And I remember the stadium erupting when Rod Gardner pulled in the Catch II! What a moment: to go from agony and the jaws of defeat to pulling off a soul crushing W against the Coots and sending them back to Columbia shaking their heads and once again wondering how they let one slip away. The looks on the Coots fans faces that night was priceless and it always brings a smile to my face (insert evil laugh here).

We need someone to step up this Saturday and pull some magic like #23 did that night, because mark my word, we will see some adversity and be in a pivotal moment at some point (hopefully not at the very end like the 2000 game described above). We need someone to be a man, step up like Rod and our team did that night, and make a game changing play. I believe we have the talent and character on this team to make it happen. Let's go do it boys, go Tigers!!

Oh man, I was at this game. Very similar atmosphere to the Louisville game this year. I was only 11 years old and my cousin and I hugged each other and jumped up and down when this happened. We didn't understand much about football at the time but I will never forget that moment. I often pull the catch II video up on YouTube and just watch it over and over. One of my all-time favorite plays for sure.

The elation, then the heart break of USuC fans: priceless.
