Greg Giraldo, Bill Burr, and Dave Chappelle are easy picks for me. The fourth is a little more difficult; even though I didn't grow up with him in his heyday, George Carlin is too much of a legend to leave him off my G.O.A.T. sculpture.

Sinbad is my distant second. I saw him in Vegas about 15 years ago and he was talking about racial profiling. He was absolutely hilarious. His views on racial profiling were we should do a lot more of it because it works. He said "you don't have to worry about Bubba from Louisiana being no alquader. Bubba ain't going to hijack no plane. Quit wasting time on screening Bubba and spend it screening Hussein and people who came from countries that hijack planes."

Obviously Cosby has a bunch of people chipping his face off of the mountain now...so maybe a Steve Martin would take his place? But those four are the ones that advanced stand up more than anyone I can think of. Carlin's social commentary was truly groundbreaking. Pryor's commercial success as a black comedian who would hit any topic was amazing. Cosby's HBO specials were national hits and Seinfeld of course had unprecedented commercial success with his sitcom.
So, that's my hot take.
Keep in mind, this is not "my four favorite commedians". I like most of them, but only Cosby really had me in stitches back in the day. Chris Rock made me laugh harder (not with this most recent effort, but his older stuff). Ricky Gervais, Mitch Hedberg, Eddie Murphy...all funnier to me personally than the ones I mentioned. But those four are my list for most impactful, successful, groundbreaking, comedy-advancing comedians.

Agree with your take on this 100%. When you think Rushmore, you're thinking founding fathers. People like Carlin, Pryor and Cosby made it possible for a lot of the others mentioned. I even heard Carlin once when asked about advice for an up and coming comedian, "Find out where the lines are drawn. And cross them. Deliberately." I would also include Lenny Bruce in a list. He pushed the boundary before any of them and was arrested for it. His later routines turned into more of a diatribe of his legal fights for the 1st Amendment, but he was still groundbreaking. Probably for saying things that these days you can hear on the Hallmark channel.

For Mount Rushmore, I choose George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Lenny Bruce, and Joan Rivers. You might call these four influencers today. They changed comedy and opened doors for others.
If I'm choosing my personal favorites the list would be George Carlin, Steve Martin, Dave Chappelle, and Robin Williams.
