Final Word on Jeremiah Alexander

Jul 7, 2021, 10:17 PM

-I told y'all on Monday that I expected Alexander to commit to Alabama tomorrow, and I have heard nothing to change that, actually just stuff to strengthen that notion, always a chance but that chance is very slim for Clemson right now. This one sucks, no way around it. Alexander was coming to Clemson, I had known that for about 3 weeks, there was a reason Alabama's staff was having a nervous breakdown when Alexander announced that he was committing this week, they knew they were not the choice. Just for how fast things switched, I went to bed Sunday it was Clemson, I woke up Monday it was Clemson, and as I was at lunch on Monday I checked my phone to see a message "Alexander is gone". Bama flipped the choice in a matter of 5 hours. Now you see why Bama is so hard to recruit against, they have their "ways" if you will. I saw that this was NIL related in a couple of comments, and I think if that is the reason we get it is more of an excuse. Based on what I have heard that was not really the reason here. However, we should all wish the young man nothing but the best, he will make what he believes is the best choice for him and his family and the decision should be respected even if we do not like it.

-On to some other options at DE. Do not forget that freaky DE Jihaad Campbell is already committed. Clemson would like to take 2.

-Maybe the biggest name at DE is still available for this class in Florida DE Shemar Stewart. Stewart was a strong LSU lean until a visit there in June left much to be desired on his end. The sentiment from national recruiting guys is that Miami leads, as he has been there multiple times in June. However, based on what I have heard I would put best odds on UGA being the team that you have to beat if you want to land Stewart. I am maybe a little bit more confident in Clemson's chances here than others would be. I think Stewart is still rather wide open and I would be surprised if he does not make it for a game in the Fall. Clemson would have to do somethings to avoid an Alexander scenario though.

-Maybe the next highest rated guy would be DE Cyrus Moss. Moss has been out of sight out of mind if you will. He is arguably Oregon's #1 guy on their board and they have made him feel as such. However, Moss has remained steadfast in waiting until December or January to decide. Clemson will get a visit for a game in the Fall, but I am unsure of the exact date as of now. I think Clemson projects as Oregon's toughest competition.

-Then you have Kenyatta Jackson from Florida. The official visits he took in June are a good indication of who leads, OSU, OU, and Bama. I would favor OU right now by a small margin. Clemson was a leader for quite sometime, but he did not visit Clemson because of the official visit policy. He expressed the intent in a recent interview to see OSU for a game so I would odds that he sees Clemson in the Fall as well, and Clemson has made contact with Jackson recently.

-I am also going to include 5 star DT/DE Gabe Dindy here as well. If you throw your mind back to last week on Thursday, I believe, I released a mock class that had Dindy in it, it also had CB Daylen Everette and I think people are catching on that UNC does not lead there, anyway that may have been a surprise to some but I wrote this with Dindy. "I began to pick up returns that Clemson’s coaches were becoming quietly confident in their chances to land Dindy in January. Furthermore, returns from Dindy’s camp back that up with one person inside his camp believing that Dindy may not be able to turn Clemson down. That may seem crazy even with the move to College Station, but this is a different recruit than most you are going to follow. How many times are UGA and Alabama not among the top 5 schools for a 5 star DL, not very often, but there are not here for reasons I stated above. This is a different recruitment, some of their tactics will not work here. Mine will probably be the only mock you see this prediction in, and it could be wrong, but I am sticking to my guns and my sources here. This is a long term play, and I will let y’all know if anything changes". Again this is more of a projection, but I think Clemson has a legit shot here.

-Have a great week Tigernation!!!

is that we still don't have enough Chick-fil-A's.

They have one more Chick-fil-A in Tuscaloosa than we do in Clemson.

You're asking TNet posters to avoid freaking out, speculating, and complaining about losing a recruit, rather than focusing on the recruits we are still in the running for.

Yeah, like that's going to happen! LOL!

:)

P.S. On a serious note, thank you for all of the great information you provide!

what ever happened to DJ Wesolak? He seems to be a huge Clemson fan and now we do not hear anything about him?

Wesolak was very high on Clemson after the Retreat. TBH I think we backed off when we thought we had Alexander and Campbell. I probably should have mentioned him as well. USC seems to have gained some momentum, but I think Clemson can draw him for another visit in the Fall if they so choose.

Jul 7, 2021, 11:14 PM

Thanks Paw. So, if I get this right, we are going after Dindy as a DT. Would we still take another DE? Just got a little confused there. Not getting a warm and fuzzy that we have a backup plan to JA as we did with Cade. Meaning we were up front with him if Ty committed.

Also, are any of the names mentioned expected at the cookout.

If nothing looks promising start of fall, do we pick up a couple projects so to speak. As always, thanks. And yes, wish him well and next man up. I would voice my opine and say this might be a good use of the portal if, and only if it was a guy available that we had gone after originally. Just saying.

Jul 8, 2021, 9:06 AM

Yes I think we are recruiting Dindy as DT. He has expressed wanting to play some DE in college, but he has some flexibility at the position; however, I think he projects best at DT. Dindy should be at the Cookout as well. Jackson, Stewart, and Moss will all most likely wait for officials in the Fall.

-I think you could see the board expand as we go into the Fall.

I have a general recruiting question for you.

I think things like this recruitment happen way more than people realize, and yes some teams are willing and able to do stuff that is outside of the rules.

Dude...You would be living under a rock if you didnt think Alabama or any other power house doesnt stretch, bend, or break the rules to get recruits...You seem like a logical person, if there is smoke then there is fire.

Yes, I do have the opinion that rules are not upheld, and I think it's likely we aren't by the book all the time either. Not all rule breaking is equal though and I'm sure others go further than the rest.

Interesting numbers - per 247 Clemson has 69 offers out...

Jul 8, 2021, 9:12 AM

Of those 8 are CU commits and 25 have committed elsewhere -

That leaves 36 active open offers at all positions for give or take 12 more commits.

we need to keep recruiting the DL hard. The players we are getting are all the three and gone guys, very talented and NFL ready. I don't think we will see many five year players any longer.

Re: Final Word on Jeremiah Alexander

Jul 8, 2021, 10:23 AM

Thanks Paw. It is hard to pull a top recruit out of Alabama if either Bama or Auburn really push for them especially Bama. Lot of pressure is put on the families making it tough for a kid to leave. Anyway, Dindy sounds like a unique individual that would fit in well here and fingers crossed to land Everette as well.

Jul 8, 2021, 10:42 AM

My question is if Bama can flip the switch in 5 hours why can’t Dabo jump on the phone and try to pull the same thing? Is that not how Dabo does things? I mean you’d think if he was about to commit to us that there would have been something our coaches could have done to persuade him back in our direction.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think Paw is asking us to read between the lines here...

Jul 8, 2021, 10:47 AM

we don't want to be involved with a recruitment that is shady especially after he silently commits to us then changes his mind within a 5-hour span. I have no ill-will towards the guy. I can imagine it's a pretty intense situation with him and his family. Having said all that, you don't need to get in the mud with the pigs either so to speak. Let it go - might even be for the best.

Yeah I wasn’t thinking of it being a shady deal. I just thought Saban made the call and persuaded him. But yeah we don’t want to be apart of that mess. Dabo does things the right way and I will always respect that.

Re: Final Word on Jeremiah Alexander

Jul 8, 2021, 11:42 AM

Very interesting take on Alexander here...and dead on. I elude to Jeff Scott's comments when he was asked about Justyn Ross...He said something to the nature of "We are glad that Justyn followed his heart and came to where he really wanted to be all along." There was some serious pressure from Bama on getting Ross...Their staff was even quoted as saying about not landing him, "I was absolutely floored and shocked when he announced for Clemson."

You are spot on again with Dindy as well. I posted a few months back that his parents are in love with Swinney and the culture that he has built at Clemson. They have absolutely no sway in where he goes regardless if his father took a gig near A&M or their Oklahoma affiliation. In fact, I think that Oklahoma isn't in the running as much as most recruiting gurus suggest. I am with you, I will go out on a limb and say we may be painting him orange either during or after the cookout. Dindy and his family are wired completely different. Real special recruitment and player...
