Explanation for the lunar eclipse?
Apr 15, 2014, 9:08 AM

I couldn't find anything. Why does the moon get dark during an eclipse? Does it lose energy and have to charge back up or something?

I didn't ask about the red moon, I know why that is.

It's because the light is being scattered by particles in the Earth's atmosphere, lengthening its wavelength to a red color.

to be scattered, so a higher proportion of the light we receive on the surface of the Earth is of a longer wavelength, i.e. red.
