Just went to Rome earlier this month. Rome's downtown streets are very narrow, almost all one-way, tightly packed, and full of scooter crazies that do not obey lane markings. Other than that, cool old places abound, plenty of neat pictures to be had. If driving, be prepared for lots of time in traffic in the downtown areas. I stayed at the Hotel Pantheon, which had great service and small rooms. Also seem to remember several over-zealous restaraunt hawkers in the downtown area trying to get you to come to their place. Food was just OK, which was a let-down. Be prepared to do without ice most places. Get your cash converted at a bank or in the airport-several tourist-trap type conversion places in Rome take a big % for their services. Enjoy your trip!

Enjoy the local beer halls with the giant steins. There are lots of castles in that area. There is also a little town called Freising out by the Munich airport with some pretty neat shops and cafes.
Also, if you're flying out of the Munich airport, I highly recommend you allowing yourself a couple hours to get through security, it can be a total cluster #### just getting to the passport checkpoint.

I've lived in the UK for 10 years so heres just a few quick things for you:
1) Don't exchange money at the airport. Hopefully you have a credit card which doesn't charge a percentage on international transactions. You will need money in Rome. Very few places take credit cards
2) People here don't hate americans so don't listen to anyone telling you otherwise. Just don't be an ugly american.
3) Uber works everywhere if you are ever in a pinch, but public transport is the best. Swift, clean and easy.
4) Rome is a beast to walk. Plan it carefully
5) Munich is the best city in europe. Amazing people, food and environment
6) All the cities are very safe.
7) Eat a ton of gelato in rome.
8) Do the Guinness museum in Dublin
9) Have a beer on the canals in amsterdam

Who now live there and suckle off of the Socialist entitlements programs now that they have ruined their own "dumpster fire" Home Countries. Dublin won't be as bad as the other cities but give it time.
Google some techniques on how to craft weapons out of standard travel items.

Haven't done Dublin, so no thoughts there.
I agree with the previous posters. Munich is awesome. Make sure to visit Hafbrauhaus...but any of the beer gardens in Munich are great. If you like being in "nature", visit the beer gardens in Englishergaten (the Munich version of Central Park). Watch out for nude sunbathers. If you are a history person, take a side trip to Dachau Concentration Camp....20 minutes outside Munich.
Rome is a beast to walk/public transit. There is so much to see...it is almost overwhelming. We hired a tour guide/driver. We told him ahead of time what we wanted to do. He bought tickets for us and picked us up at apartment we rented. He drove us to the doorstep of everything we wanted to see and handed us the tickets. It was so easy...worth the extra money to have him do all of that and get us from point a to b. I highly recommend that in Rome...
Have not been to Amsterdam....but we have done Netherlands. Love the canals...rent bikes and ride wherever you want. Laid back place. Fries and mayo are also amazing...not just a Pulp Fiction catch phrase.

I already see some great tips about Munich. I suggest the Hundskugel restaurant in Munich. It has been around since 1440. Very cool place that serves family style on long wooden benches. Also, the oldest brewery in the world , Weihenstephan, is in nearby Freising in an old monastery where it started. Another nearby, but very somber trip, is Dachau.

Business or pleasure? Family with you? Kids? Friends with you? How much spending money do you have? Going on guided tour or free-lance? You want museums in the experience or other specific sights? How will you carry money? Do you have a voltage converter? What food can you tolerate? What clothing do you need?
I'd rather go to Napa valley and San Fran.
