Execution, Not Coaching...
Sep 24, 2014, 10:57 PM
|
|
We have a young group of talented players that took the No. 1 team in the nation to the cleaners. FSU did not win that game, we lost it. Just keep in mind - it was execution, not coaching.
We have all of the parts in place for greatness and our coaching staff is recruiting superior players; great athletes with great character.
No other team has played two top 10 teams away from home in such incredibly hostile environments as our Tigers have, and we are only 3 games into the season.
Greatness is headed our way, and I would rather be part of a clean program than an embarrassment of a team like FSU with their "mildly" insane QB. My nephew asked me "Why does ABC keep showing that guy that is such a influence and such a horrible person? Do they want to win at all costs?".
I told him that winning is important, but it is HOW you win that is most important.
Our youth today have very few heroes to look up to; honor, integrity, trustworthiness - those characteristics are very hard to find in today's society. Clemson has some great men of character, starting with Coach Dabo Swinney and his staff, and filtering down to the type of players that we have and are recruiting.
The Deshaun Watson era is on the horizon, and I am so glad that he is a young man that possesses the "right stuff". HE is someone that my nephew can look up to as a role model, along with many, many other Clemson players and coaches.
It is unfortunate that we did not knock off the number one team in the country, squashing that team that represents everything we don't want to be. But the Tigers will prevail, just as goodness always does.
I look forward to always supporting our team - win or lose, and I am proud to be a Clemson man.

Excellent post. That is one of the most well written commentaries that I have seen this season.
Winning at all costs has it's consequences; karma is a "witch with a B".
Good job Little Mac 62!!!

Are properly trained you will execute.
So. .winning and losing is dependant on both coaches and players and even fans. .. and the weather. .. and luck. . And probably other stuff. Every one sports.

I agree with you but I do have a question. (A real question, not being facetious.) Do you think our coaches are not properly training Lakip on kicking? Or do you think he nails it in practice and chokes under pressure, and he needs to be coached more on dealing with stress?

i have no doubt Lakip is a good kicker. for kickers, it's 95% mental...
big stage, all eyes on you, big rush, angle, etc...
mental and nerves, bottom line

Can mental toughness and preparedness be taught by coaches? Or is that something that is gained with experience alone? (I have no clue. I've never coached.)

In all seriousness, he has what even professional golfers get on three foot putts, "the yips". comes from thinking about the ones you missed. Only way out is confidence through repetition with hundreds of kicks.

You guys who always say execution is taught by coaching have probably never coached young men a day in your life. I guess when Brent Venables loses all the guys he loses off this defense next year, and the defense doesn't execute on some plays that hurt us then all of a sudden he forgot how to coach.

You're right, they are coached to execute

but the coaches can't go on the field and ensure in every occurrence that all the players do exactly as they were coached.

And it was a shame to see so much of Winston on the sidelines during the game. It certainly sent some mixed messages to my son while he watched with us. We watched with our neighbor who is a FSU fan, and even he was telling my son that it was awful that he was even allowed to be on the sidelines. I'm glad my son is surrounded with positive influence and good people. Others aren't as lucky.
I'm looking forward to the remainder of the season and the future. Go Tigers!

thanks dabo but we have already seen your press conference. by the way the scoreboard said we lost as well as the reaction of all of fsu nation. talk to me about next year, next game, or your 8 year contract extension with a 29 million dollar buyout but please don't tell me we did not lose! we have people in government that do that enough and we get to vote to elect them, and with you we don't even get a vote.
