Shannon Sharpe, Ladanian Tomlinson, Deion Sanders.. heap praise and say great things about Deshaun. Whose word would you take? Those that have done it or a guy that pretends on TV? His problem is that he only saw Deshaun play one time last year in Person and it was Deshauns loss to PItt. He was on the call that game and I think he bases his whole opinion about DW on that one game he saw. I think DW threw 2 or 3 picks that game. But also threw a ton of TD's and yards. But he can't get over the TO's that game. So every time he talks about him he is going to dog him out.

McShiayt hated in Watson's draft grade the entire year. Seems like he would have done a little research to back his grade up or change it, during the coarse of a year. Now he will never be able to wipe all that egg of his face.

They get paid way more with ESPN. That would be a huge downgrade in careers. I am not saying they are qualified though.

Just what are NFL teams going to do to adjust to Watson ...... start covering his receivers ....... forcing him to throw inaccurate passes ...... trying to tackle him ....... mix up defenses? Like the NFL defenses have never faced a QB that is mobile and can pass .....new concept. They are just about to catch up with Brady and I predict that in the next five years he will no longer be effective!

or a smooth run when the pocket breaks down, for example, are things that don't change regardless of what the defense does. And likewise his comment saying you can't tangibly see Deshaun is a winner, is the guy really that much of a dum bass? I just don't how some of these sports guys get paid for being ignorant buffoons.
Rant over...

McShay is such a tool.
He went on and on trashing Watson and saying he was a 2nd-or-3rd-round talent and wouldn't pan out, and he was instrumental in creating the collective opinion that somehow Trubisky was the top QB in the draft.
Not surprisingly, a terrible franchise - Chicago - bit on the narrative and drafted Trubisky, while a very good franchise in Houston recognized Deshaun's value and gave up two 1's to get him.
In the meantime, Cleveland was busy being Cleveland and passed on Watson when he was right there to be had at any point, and of course drafted Deshone Kizer.
Now that Watson is showing clearly he's a different sort of QB, rather than eat crow and admit his mistake, here's McShay going "it's unsustainable".
Which tells you all you need to know about McShay and the level of his intellectual honesty.

I wish I had a recording of him yesterday on Mike and Mike, I believe, it may have been Russillo's show.
Anyways, the host asked him about his Watson grade from this year's NFL Draft. His look was classic. He about went cross eyed and came close to blowing a gasket. Took a deep breath, to regain composure, and said that Watson was tough to grade because our system doesn't translate to the NFL game. No McShyat, your theory has holes all in it and your assessment is purely lazy. You assumed that Watson wasn't checking in and out of plays constantly at Clemson, you also kept saying Watson did not have a big enough arm, and noted the increase in his interception numbers from his junior to senior seasons. You did not look at the conditions of those interceptions and you obviously did not watch big throw after big throw Deshaun made in his three years at Clemson. As well as the fact that Clemson gives their QBs the keys to the offense; to check in and out of plays. That is if they have put in the necessary work to have the understanding to do so. It was well documented that Watson had that option at Clemson and that is the number one thing (stereotypical knock) that is usually the difference in a QB coming from a spread offense in college and into the NFL. Just lazy on your part - you shouldn't look so mind blown, still.

YOU SIR have NO idea what your talking about if you think our system works for the NFL.
We RARELY have a multi read progression in the passing game, we have two reads on one side of the field and thats it. We dont read the whole field, we work on one side of the or the other. Why do you think Boyd was so terrible in the NFL? Why do you think he didnt even last 2 seasons. He had NO idea how to study the defense or even how to read it. Our offense is NOT a NFL pro ready offense, its a mix of college and HS offense that spreads you out and takes advantage of the one on one match ups. We dont have route trees or anything like that. Doesnt matter if its over 3 or cover 2 or man up Dion will still run the same route. Sorry fellas but we arent running a NFL system or one even close to it. Do some research.

Did I say run our system in the NFL? No. I said the knock on spread QBs is that the stereotype is that they do not transition to the NFL. Largely because the ball is going to where it is going preset, presnap and the stereotype is that spread QBs are not known for their ability to read defenses due to that. Watson and our offense is an exception to that stereotype. Kelly is not as advanced as Deshaun in that aspect, so this year it is not the same situation as last year. In time Kelly will have more of that option in his game.
Btw, all I have heard this past week on TV is the Texans offense is that of and looks just like Clemson. That Houston has changed their offense for Deshaun, for now. Defenses will adjust and I am sure this is a temporary deal for the Texans' offense. That they will move into their playbook of old as Watson gains experience and the Texans get better on the offensive line. But for now our offense is working in the NFL.
As for Tahj, that was on Chad Morris, he was more worried about WRs blocking down field than coaching our QBs up or having a more in depth passing plan.

2 other NFL teams took QB's that weren't named Watson before he was drafted. Yet why arent all you guys all up in arms about the scouts for the Chiefs or the Bears???
McShay said he thinks Watson would be drafted in the 1st rd. He said others in the LEAGUE have him as 3rd and 4th rd pick why isnt everyone all butt hurt about that?
Seems like you guys pick in choose what to b-itch over.

No, McShay changed his tune right before the draft. He had Deshaun outside the first and second rounds off his grade but bumped him up largely because of the chatter that Watson would go in the first round. That and it didn't take much homework to see Deshaun killed it at the NFL Combine and everyone saw his baller performances in both National Championships versus the "All l-World, All-Time" Bama Ds.

Everyone on this thread ripping McShay but it appears everyone still watches and talks about him so he laughs to the bank.
He and Kiper are media personalities first and foremost. They carry no weight with NFL teams. Plus they make more than they would if they were on an NFL staff.
I do feel bad for a kid that leaves early bases on the opinion of the TV guys. I can only hope these kids have folks telling them not to listen.

He is employed. We watch sports and the shows surrounding sports. He is getting a check but his opinion is shaky at best. If you could have seen what I saw and posted about you would see this one is eating at him. Usually those guys don't show such. They just spout rubbish, move on without any regard. It is not the case with this one. He was adamant about Watson not being worthy to put in the Top QB discussion throughout the the past season and draft. Brad freaking Kyaya and Kizer were bigger fish in his book. This one is bugging him. My guess is he has been blasted over it the past few weeks. Haha
