The founding ideal for which many died was, "We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men ... are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights ... ".
Not self endowed, not by society, not by culture, not by the government, not by contemporary norms. It is a value few today would defend, though many died for it.
When I hear the national anthem, it is that value I remember, and the ones who gifted us with it. I think Jewel's at the Indy 500 was great. Up there with Whitney's.

What a great country we live. It ain't perfect, but what a great stand this country has taken in the history of the world. I feel sorry for people who don't understand that.

Ok, but the man was a Deist and not a Christian. He doesn't necessarily believe the Creator is the same one that you do.
It's not weird that religious people would put their thoughts in the constitution, it doesn't make them true, though.

BTW, being an atheist wasn't any worse than disagreeing with the Church in those days. Unless you got caught dancing with the devil nekkin under the light of a full moon you were pretty safe.

Those men also believed African Americans were less than human, and women shouldn’t be allowed to vote.
There came a day when I realized I couldn’t go by everything someone older than me believed.
The battle for freedom is still being fought by some today in America.

But I will say I commend those men for moving us in the right direction.
The world is getting better for everyone, not just the white heterosexual Christian, and not because of some ancient religious text or one version of god….
And the fact that it is improving contradicts the biblical worldview of sin and the fall.
