Calling out Rivals Recruiting Rankings ...
Jul 15, 2012, 9:39 AM
|
|
In the past 5 years, only 2 ACC teams have finished in the Top5 in Rivals ranking system (FSU in 2011 & MIA in 2008)
Is Rivals based in Tuscaloosa? Bama has finished #1 in 2012, 2011, 2009, 2008.
I would guess that most of Rivals subscriptions come from: Alabama, Texas, Florida, and Southern Cal.

I'd say that they can coach! They get good players and make them great.Or, they get good players and coach them to fit their system. That is real coaching when you can do that. If a coach has the ability to make a few players fit into his system regardless of their talents and win, he is someone special. A good baseball coach can win without sluggers, or 99 mph fastball pitchers, of great defensive players if he can use the talents his players have to form a team. Hide your flaws and improve on the skills that you have. It ain't easy but it can be done. I think that you will see a Clemson team this fall that doesn't allow a lack of experience in the offensive line slow down a potentially great offensive team.

but none of those are 'bama. they get the cream of the crop of who they want. i could coach the talent they have, and so could most people that know football. you can't teach talent, only fundamentals and assignments, etc.

Better than ESPN who systematically rates players who agree to play in the under armor game higher than those playing in the army game.

Every rating system is subjective.

Consumer Reports will often put a note at the bottom of their ratings stating that a difference of ten points is generally meaningless. I'd say you could apply a similar rule to all recruiting ratings. I think a school needs to be consistently in the recruiting top twenty to have winning teams.

personally not sure how much any rankings mean. That said, rivals is fairly decent compared to the others.
I would rank the major services as: 1)247 sports is the best 2)rivals 3)scout 4)espn

I believe Orangebloods is the largest base, hence Rivals' love affair with everything UT. Tyrone Swoopes, for example, is incredibly overrated. I' e seen him play and he's a 3-star QB prospect, IMO.

i tjink part of it also is that the evaluators have more respect for certain coaching staffs. the use offer sheets in their evals. so when a kid gets that bama offer he gets bumped, not neccesarily because its bama, but because they figure if saban wants him he must really be good.

Not complaining, but you know Ryan Jenkins was bumped up from an 80 to an 82 into the espn 300 after he committed to us...
