By luck or the grace of GOD discovered the perfect career for me.
It did not pay enough to support a family, so took on countless part time jobs.

One was at a family owned drug store.
Not much traffic there after dark. The old guy was a Braves fan as was the old druggist.
The radio with baseball turned dull evenings into excitement.

I miss my Braves on TBS. My first mlb game was in Fulton county stadium. Ken Gorner on third and Chief Nockahoma. Good times.

With the right announcers, baseball is by far the best

radio sport. It's time between action (pitches) allows for story telling, conversations, antics, and then "the pitch." Spent many a summer night on Hartwell fishing with dad listening to the great Joe Tait and Herb Score call Indians games. The great, sports voices almost all came from baseball: Harwell, Scully, Barber, Buck, Carey, Prince, Kallas, Allen.

Few guys pay their dues on radio anymore and it shows

my first game was a double header in 1969 vs. San Francisco at Fulton County stadium. I saw Hank hit one out that day. And also, Bobby Bonds put one in the upperdeck. Braves split that day, it was my 12th birthday. Great memories!

Ernie Harwell and his longtime play-by-play boothmate Paul Carey were the best. To this day when a hitter strikes out looking the echo of Harwell’s voice saying “like a house by the side of the road” immediately comes to mind.
