ESPN's fetish with the SEC
Aug 6, 2013, 10:27 PM
|
|
I'm through with it. For real. I mean, I mean we picked apart FSU's defense, we destroyed Auburn in last years opener, and we made LSU look like a disoriented drunk college girl in Vegas, and the only thing Pollack, Herbstreit and Co. can come up with is "Great offense...but that's about it".
You know, there was a time when ESPN College Football was a quality show. Now, it has become one massive circle-jerk fanbase for the SEC.

I heard someone once say that today's treasures

often become tomorrow's trash, even considering what one paid for those treasures.
No doubt ESPN has heavily invested in the SEC, and as any business would do, they will promote their investments. Yet, those investments remain promotable only as long as they continue to reap rewards.
Should the SEC falter along the way, and national focus is diverted elsewhere, ESPN will have no choice but to follow the trend and hype the new. Over the course of my life, I've seen many "sure bets" eventually replaced by "surer bets." Hence, I have no doubts that eventually the love affair with the SEC will be directed elsewhere.
The not-so-secret secret, of course, is for other teams and/or other conferences to win ball games and, particularly, defeat SEC teams. Until then, I think I'll continue to ignore the SEC hype, enjoy the game and hope dear, ole Clemson will do its part to begin that redirection.

trash?
ESPN will do whatever drives ratings and thus advertising $$$. If that's the $EC, then they'll ride that train as long as they can.

It is business. They are not fans of individual team, they are fans of advertising money and that rolls in when they cover winners.
Think about it, a few years ago it was all Texas Oklahoma So Cal etc. It just happens to be a series of years where SEC teams win.
If Clemson Fla st etc win, they will take it away from the SEC. Look at Louisville, ESPN can't get enough of them. They are dying for something new. Only problem is a few losses for Louisville, Clemson not meeting expectations, Fla St dropping a few here or there, and ESPN will drop all of them as quickly as they did Texas, So Cal etc

we picked apart FSU, but lost by 12. we didn't "destroy" Auburn we statistically slaughtered LSU, but needed a miracle 4th and 16 and last second FG to win
all that being said we WON, but to their point we do have a "great offense", but the defense remains to be seen on how much they improve...........our offense is our brand and that's how it should be.
IMO our defense is much better this year

Sometimes I think they want SEC league

I agree. It is almost as if they seem to want to break the SEC into some league "above" the BSC (or whatever its called now until we get into the joke of a 4 team "playoff")

Well statistically they are their own league. They have owned college football including multiple teams winning national champs over the last several years. Go back to So Cal with Reggie Bush losing their championship and an undefeated Auburn team would claim that one. Then there was an LSU team that was right there with another champ which would even make it worse.
The bowl games are all lopsided matchups afavoring the other teams nd they win most of those too. There is no equal conference matchup, just look at the Peach Chick Fila Bowl SEC #6 against ACC #2 that says it all.
Until the ACC or the Big10 pick it up we will all be forced to hear about how great the SEC is.
But many of you have a short memory because it was only a few years ago ESPN was covered in Reggie Bush Vince Young Maurice Clarett, etc and nobody in the SEC was mentioned
