ESPN: Freshman Trevor Lawrence will be Clemson's starting QB

Jan 12, 2018, 11:21 AM

Kelly Bryant did a lot of great things in his first season as Clemson's starting quarterback, throwing for 2,802 yards with 13 touchdowns and leading the Tigers to a 12-2 record. But the Tigers' 24-6 loss to Alabama in a CFP semifinal at the Allstate Sugar Bowl also exposed some of his shortcomings as a passer.

Bryant, a rising senior, will have a difficult time holding off Lawrence, an incoming freshman and early enrollee, who is ranked the No. 1 pocket passer and No. 2 player overall in the ESPN 300. Lawrence, from Cartersville, Georgia, is 6-foot-6 and 209 pounds. He has been described as a "once-in-a-generation kind of player," kind of like the last Clemson quarterback from Georgia: Deshaun Watson.

Even with a freshman quarterback, Clemson will join Alabama in the CFP. Two other teams with first-year quarterbacks -- Oklahoma and Ohio State -- will also make the four-team field.

I would like to think so but if you remember Cole Stout still started over Deshaun Watson.

‘‘Tis true !

Question is, will we have the gub’ment employee rights mentality where time and tenure takes precedence over all else ?

None of us know what took place in those early practice sessions between Watson and the other guys so we shouldn’t be to critical of the coaches. This will be an entirely different situation between entirely different players. Only the coaches remain the same and I suspect that they are better too! Personally, I think that 2018will be the greatest Tiger season yet. Why wouldn’t it be? Because Dabo and company can’t coach??? Get real. We are on the very edge of becoming the very best in college football.

Sure did, after Watson got hurt in Spring Practice. He also started over him for what, 3 games?

Hunter Johnson will have much to say about this!!

Jan 12, 2018, 11:38 AM

if anyone supplants KB between game 1 and game 6 it will be Hunter Johnson... Tlaw is going to need time to learn the playbook but i don't think he gets the same grasp of it as KB and HJ by fall camp... and if I wrong, that is just going to make this team even MORE dangerous...

I don't think that gets mentioned enough, those 3 games certainly confirm Dabo plays the seniority card at all times.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Or Dabo learned from it and isn't afraid to put trust in

Jan 12, 2018, 12:41 PM

the best player. I still think KB will make great strides this spring and summer and hold on to the starting job but HJ and TL will be right there with any misstep.

My one wish if HJ and TL win the job is we stop with the RPO crap every play and let the OL blow off the ball and hit somebody. I absolutely despised watching our road grater guards stand there and play patty cake all year.

Or the coaches felt Watson needed a little more time after being hurt in the spring, and us playing road games against UGA and FSU within the first 3 games. And if he plays the seniority card at all times, then how have guys like Sammy Watkins, Nuk Hopkins, Dexter Lawrence, ETN, Hyatt, Wilkins, Watson, and all the other freshman who have played big roles for us over the past several years been able to do so?

In all honesty, I don't care who ends up being the starting QB. In Dabo We Trust right? It's just a great feeling that it's common now to assume our Tigers are a lock to make the playoffs.
