Anyone ever had charbroiled oysters? It's the specialty at

Drago's restaurant at the Hilton Riverside where I'll be staying in New Orleans week after next. Sounds like an interesting appetizer or meal even if accompanied by some good French bread. Love 'em raw and fried, assume I'll like 'em charbroiled also. We'll see.

But they shucked the oysters/juice and set aside, then put the shells in a fire and got them very hot, then dropped the oysters/juice back into the shells and they got charred quickly on one side, still kinda raw on top. Were awesome!

close to tasting as good as they do raw. Sorry, why screw up perfection. That Rocket fellow also added cheese and bacon. Heck, you can eat #### with enough cheese and bacon.

Well, as some sage once remarked, different strokes for different folks. Have you ever attended a lowcountry oyster roast? There are bazillions of folks who are not so picky and want variety. Raw Oysters are excellent, a little hot sauce and a saltine are good accompanists.
Go Tigers, don't be one way, pass run and intercept. They all work.

I've attended Lowcountry oyster roasts

Midlands oyster roasts, piedmont oyster roasts, mountain oyster roasts, Boston oyster roasts, and even a Sydney oyster roast.
And lemme tell ya....
Australian oysters are the best of the lot. Period. They are smaller than our oysters, and saltier. You really don't need any sauce or anything on them.

I have been there twice and they are awesome but have not been in 5 years or so. Not in the quarter but worth the drive as they were incredible. A definite must.

EAT AT LEAST 3 DOZEN AT DRAGO'S
Jun 14, 2015, 8:55 PM

You will never have better oysters. Grilled, then soaked in garlic butter and parmigiano cheese. UNBELIEVABLY good.
They also have a place on the lake north of town too.

Yes...one of my favorite places to go in NO....

I've not been to the satellite location in the Hilton, but I understand it's the same as the main place in Metairie
It's a meal...they serve them on hi-rimmed "trays". All you need with them is bread and beer. Get some of the original ones and some of the ones with spinach, bacon, and holandaise sauce.
The shrimp and corn bisque is good there too. Their gumbo is good, but there is better in NO.
