coaches, and you have to start somewhere. While there is certainly some nepotism going on, no one would know better than them how Dabo wants things done, and their first jobs are pretty much "learn as you go" low level ones.
And from their point of view, starting your coaching careers working for a 2X National Championship winning Head Coach ain't chopped liver, either.

It's definitely nepotism, but they are just support roles...

Report to the position coach. Put out cones for drills, line people up, help with training paths, etc... Generally they help the position coach with whatever they need. Batson's kid is joining him in strength and conditioning as well.

I agree. First coaching jobs, on just about any level, are just glorified

gofers. As I said, everybody has to start somewhere. Dabo is just making sure his son, and the son of the dying friend and former teammate that he swore he would look out for, get the best start possible. I got no problems with it, on any level whatsoever. In fact, I applaud it.

they are glorified volunteers. quit your complaining about nepotism.
Those two were in the system for 6 years each and have a college from the University. How much more qualifications do you need to make that a fair hire?

That is great. They will be great additions that reflect the character that Dabo is looking for in our players.

I believe Drew is heavily involved with recruiting. Was surprised about Nolan as last I heard he was playing for Tampa. Seems he was released and decided his path is in coaching

No one should be surprised that Dabo put his son and adopted son on staff.

It's his program and he has clearly been given carte blanche to do whatever he wants.
Hopefully it will be mutually beneficial for them as well as our football program.

These staff additions are inconsequential until Dabo decides to promote them internally. Then we get into the situation where they don’t have near enough coaching experience/exposure to be a D1 assistant at a top 20 program.

They’ve been there for a bit, both were already in those positions in May when we were at camp.

I think Nolan Turner is a good one to have on board...was a smart player, I'm hoping we can do the same with Renfrow when he decides to call it quits in the NFL.

It's an unpaid internship, not really a big deal in my opinion. It'll give him experience to put on a resume and maybe he can be picked up somewhere else later on to start a true coaching career.

It is not an unpaid internship. Further the football building is overrun with people who will not seek employment anywhere else. Used to be your GA’s would leave the nest and get valuable experience at other institutions.

Perfect for these guys! Actually a better fit than putting them on the field. With this they actually have a chance to be elite.

As long as they aren't rushed into an on field role I don't see an issue. Will say though Dabo put himself in the hole by promoting guys a bit too early and had way too much inexperience on the staff, that's been the real issue not the portal.
