I owe the board a sincere apology - I did not know the rules

Dec 8, 2012, 9:29 AM

After a recent post in which I suggested a specific football improvement, I was made keenly aware by a most honorable TigerNet poster that such posts are not allowed unless I have played football at the collegiate level.

Until now, I had not been aware that each of you played football in college and possibly continued your pursuits into the professional ranks. So I must now remove myself from all future discussion about football and watch from the sidelines as you not only play the game but talk about it amongst yourselves.

Dec 8, 2012, 10:21 AM

The discussion this guy is complaining about was open concerning playing offensive players (WR's) on defense.

What he was pretty much told was that he was making it all too clear that he, himself had never been an athlete. At the college level, it is unreasonable to ask a kid to run both sides of the ball consistently.

I'm sorry your obviously fragile feelings were hurt. I'll try to take that into consideration from now on.

followup question earlier --- The stamina argument goes away if there are only a few selected situations where the best 11 would be on the field for defense. Do you really believe there is no way to train a first round NFL caliber receiver to play redzone defense at the collegiate level for 10 plays a game?

To be honest, I have yet to hear a valid argument against it.

P.S. I still have the football uniform Santa left under the tree for me when I was 10 years old. The only one I ever had the honor to wear.

On one occasion --- Vividly remember throwing a long TD pass to win the game. Winning isn't everything, but easier to remember than a loss.

Less than 1% of the "experts" on these boards have ever buckled a chin strap at any level, therefore don't hesitate to comment. That's what makes this fun. Opinions are welcomed. One of my best coaches was our head baseball coach who had never touched a football, but he knew how to motivate young people!

boys actually playing made me take it off and go home. Quite devastating for an eight year old! Howsomeever, over the years since, I have developed a sixth sense about the "game," the only problem being folks still don't give a particular d@mn what I think. And that's why I rarely dare to offer an opinion on the X's and O's....lol

Dec 9, 2012, 10:47 AM [ in reply to If you had really played football you would know ]

football is a game. If I'm going to be haunted by a mistake I made during a game in my youth it's going to be not buying Park Place when I owned Boardwalk.

Son, one play does not cost a team a ballgame. It's the overall performance not the highlight.

If you or anyone else is haunted by their missed plays you probably need to get married, have a family and some kind of life.
