IU basketball coaching search 2025: Hot board version 3.0

Gotta believe Scott Drew is the very top of the list but Brownell showing as a tier 1 candidate.

IU was paying Woodson $4.2M, a $700K increase over what we are paying CBB, which I believe is #1 or #2 in the ACC (Duke doesnt disclose). Does Neff have the money to match if IU comes calling? With Rev sharing likely coming this summer things could get tight with the budget.

still think there is someone not on that list that might be at top that not getting media attention. Still say three or four names at least will be offered before Coach Brownell does. College Basketball Insider Jeff Goodman thinks TJ Otzelberger at Iowa State should be the front runner.

Smart ADs don't actually offer unless they know the answer will be yes. As far as a pecking order, I am not sure where CBB falls but I hope is the 8th top choice.

Does Neff "want to"

Since we're on the topic of speculating about what may or may not happen let's back up a little.
Would Neff pay a ton more $ to keep Brad if Indiana tried to hire him away? I have no idea, but it would be interesting to see if he was still Neff's top candidate for that amount of money.
Something to ponder.

Thats a good point and one that I assumed in my head but didnt articulate.
I think "want to" is really just a function of compensation. Neff wants to keep him (see last years $500K/yr raise). Lets say IU comes calling and all we need to do to keep him is up his salary by $1, you know Neff will do it. But if its $700K or more... maybe not.
Only Babb, Rick Petillo, Neff and Clements have an idea what that $ amount is where "yes" becames a "we can't"

Seeing as the public doesnt know the answer, it would be silly to place any bet on that.

It's not that much. He is making less than $4 million. Remember no head coaching experience before he was hired just like Hubert Davis at UNC.

I have seen estimates in the $7-$8 million range.

That seems reasonable given the position, but agree with you that he might not be making that much since he wasn't a head coach previously.
Sort of how UNC did with Hubert Davis.

According to SportsKeeda.com:
Scheyer reportedly makes around $7-8 million annually. But when it comes to comparing with the Hall of Famer coach Mike Krzyzewski, Scheyer's income simply pales in comparison. Coach K had earned over $12.5 million during the 2020-21 season as per Sportico

I bet Ohio State pays their football coach more than purdue pays theirs. I bet Texas pays their coach more than Miss St pays theirs. Hmm maybe there is a reason for that such as Championships?

If we can have a deep run in the NCAA tournament, the money earned will more than cover the cost of a raise for coach. The job at Indiana is about more than money because of how special the place is.

That last part is what we cannot offer. We might be able to match the $$ but Hoosier BBall is/was legendary.
I can't see us ponying up a massive raise a year after we just gave one, unless someone is coming after CBB. He almost certainly has bonus amounts for certain goals like ACCT title, NCAA Tourney, sweet 16 etc.
