Does anyone think

Dabo loves Clemson less than his stance on the portal or hiring from loyalty?
Certainly things are in need of a change, and I would be hard pressed to think Dabo doesn’t believe that. When it boils down to it, does anyone think Dabo would rather keep his loyalties over doing what is best for the program he’s built?
Honest question. I’d hope he loves the program more than his own stances IF the stances are what’s handcuffing the programming.

I think he truly believes that he is doing right by Clemson and his players by avoiding the portal and risking his perception of its impact on his culture.

I believe he thinks that also. It almost seems strange

though. It is like he does not think the culture he has built internally is strong enough to withstand any outside influence coming in. That isn't really giving his players much credit for buying into what he is selling.

I think at some point his players will simply want to get back to winning and playing for championships and will be fine with having to compete a little harder against those select players we might choose to bring in. They want all of the positive headlines and notoriety that comes with it.

It's also good training for the NFL if they go.

So what if Cole Turner needs to sit out a few more plays. You see what he does once he's in there.

for Clemson. I find it ridiculous that folks think his discomfort with the portal is the key to our “decline”. That just provides an easy answer for idiots. We’ll have a much better idea of the status of our program in December than we do now.

My friend, if you need until December to figure out that we have serious issues then I don't know what to tell you.

I really don't think most people feel the lack of using the portal is a key to our decline. I think people simply feel that using it might be a key to helping address a few of our issues.

This is the answer. The portal won’t make us win every game, but it addresses issues regarding lack of depth. There is a significant drop off specifically at WR from Williams to the other guys. The use of the portal does not magically make us explosive, but, it does help give more threats to expand the field vertically.

The biggest reason for our decline is poor coaching hires.

We have more than enough talent to beat pretty much every team on our schedule most years. That's why we have still won double digit games each of the last two years.
If our recent coaching staffs had to compete against teams with similar or greater talent on a regular basis, we would have a much worse record.
The transfer portal could've helped, but not using it isn't our biggest problem.

The question might be if Dabo changes and adopts the portal as an integral part of the roster management, will the program still be the program he built? If that’s something he cannot accept then I think he will choose to leave coaching. He’s doesn’t like losing, but he also desires a vocation that impacts young men. If he can’t achieve both winning and have that impact then he’s probably not right for where college football has gone.
