What's with the love for the Tar Heels in FB this year?

I get that they are possibly a team on the rise, but seems like lots of morons (well, maybe that answers my question right there) like SECSPN's Schlabach are quick to confidently rank them ahead of us going into this fall.
I guess my question is did I miss something? They got embarrassed by East Carolina at home. And the only reason they ended the regular season on a 5-game win streak is because the competition, frankly, was laughable. Oh, yeah, and they beat a mediocre team Cincy team in a bowl.
I just don't see them anywhere even remotely close to us in terms of talent or experience on either side of the ball.
So, what am I missing?

because the level of competition took a nosedive after game #6. A 3 win team (NC State), two 7 win teams (Pitt and BC) an 8 win FCS team (ODU), and a bowl win over a 9 win Cincy team who beat nobody last year and lost to both USF and Illinois. That's a big reason why UNC looked so formidable when Williams took over.

with our front 7 I expect to stone wall their offense this year and by that point in the season our O should have gelled well enough to exploit their porous defense.

I think miami Georgia tech va tech were better competition than most teams in the Atlantic such as wake forest bc nc state and Syracuse. And Pitt was better too I think. Fla state way above the rest of course.

run attack...decent wide-outs...decent quarterback
not sure about their O-line and defense but everything

I must be missing something as well. I know they are putting some pieces together.. Hood should be a beast, but I don't understand the love. I think Fedora is a pretty smart coach, but I think they are still a few years away from "arriving." That is...if they ever arrive.
