Biggest recruiting miss

With it being what was supposed to be “DJU Week” (not anymore unfortunately.) Who in your opinion is the biggest recruiting miss in the last 15-20 years?
Imo it’s Mike Bellamy. He had so much potential and I know he’s not really a “miss” as much as his off the field issues, I just think of how great he could of been in those Morris ran offenses and off of what limited amount of game action we got to see out of him.

I don't consider Harper a miss. He was fine for who he was out of HIS.

I dunno. He was #3 RB and #12 overall player coming out of HS
Fumbled his first carry ever and his best year was 760yds with a 3.9ypc avg. for a guy nicknamed the “Silver Tuna” back then I would say he was pretty much a bust

Regardless, you listed some two guys (Korn and Crosby) who had very unfortunate injuries. And Harper did okay, not great.

Was Willy Korn a miss or did injuries knock him out?

Roscoe was not a miss. He was injured in one of the first games he played, if not THE first, and never recovered from that.

Have to agree with DJ. There have been bigger busts than him but the timing was horrible and impact was bigger than any I can think of. The way we recruit at QB (bare bones) pretty much means you can’t miss on them or it’s a huge problem.

DJ put up massive numbers vs Notre Dame when Lawrence was hurt. Before he became our starting QB following Lawrence's departure, DJU got regular Heisman Trophy talk AND a very nice $$ deal from Doctor Pepper. In my mind he was the biggest bust in our history.
I do not hesitate to call him a bust in the expectations of most people.
But DJU started at 3 different major college programs and I think was the QB of record in 30 wins at those schools. 30 wins at the major college level is pretty solid for a college QB. Anyone want to put a number on the money he made playing college football?
DJU is a Clemson graduate and he gave us what he had. That's all I think we might ought to ask of anyone who does the work, is a decent teammate, and played for Clemson. I would like to bump into him some time, somewhere, shake his hand thank him for his work for Clemson. He wanted Clemson to win as much as any of us.
Go Tigers!!

I felt the same way until his comments after he left. After all Dabo did to support him and give him the benefit of the doubt and then to turn around and blame the program? He’s gotten what he deserves. Hope he learns from it because by all accounts he wasn’t a bad kid so I’ll cut him a tiny bit of slack.

Don’t get me wrong, DJ was a big miss. But it was also hurt by a bunch of misses at WR. Outside of Shipley, he really didn’t have any other playmakers around him to make life easier.
Again, not trying to make a case that DJ was great by any means. Just saying that he had his own issues and it was exacerbated by a lackluster WR room.

Was it the WRs or was it the fact that he just makes everyone around him worse? I mean we did have some highly recruited players in his class.
Same with FSU right now, are their WRs just that bad or do they just not have faith in him, or does he throw one wonky ### ball that is just uncatchable.. I don't know.

A recent miss that was huge was Demarcus Bowman. Not just because he was set to be a truly elite RB, it would’ve broken us back into that recruiting region of Lakeland.

Tony Stewart was kind of a bust given that he was "All Everything" in HS, a 5*, and #1 outside LB prospect. He never really got it going at Clemson but much of that had to do with tearing his ACL just a month or so into his Freshman year.
I would have loved to have seen what he might have been if he could have stayed healthy.

DJ is the biggest bust, yall are not giving him enough credit for the damage he did. His play was why wrs transferred and the reason why his second year after injuries to starters left Clemson running out walking ons at wr. He single handedly lost at a minimum 3 games (UGA, Pittsburgh, Scar) and cost Clemson a spot in the playoffs.
It was never a "confidence issue" it's been an issue of development bc the guy never had to be a decision maker and always had the superior athletes on his team, he's a product of his environment and what his youth and HS coaches asked him to do.

IMO you can't say it's DJ when he was 22-6 as a starter! At least I heard that stat recently. That's not a bust. Did he fall well short of expectations? He did, no doubt. I'd go with Korn. That guy never did a thing. And was a deer in headlights when pressured. He was also supposed to b the local savior! And regarding Steward, yes he had a disappointing career, mainly due to injuries. But he also had a very solid Sr yr.

Can't recall many players as highly regarded as DJ single handedly divide a fan base, locker room, and give away major games.
Will Shipley as much as many on here hated him, carried this team while DJ was the QB.

I won't put Korn on this list ever. He was not a consensus 5 star and he essentially lost his ability to play ball after an injury.
I'll give you Hunter Johnson, never understood how he was a 5 star to begin with.

Maybe we are forgetting about another recent 5 star in our QB room who never started and transferred, then stunk it up there too? I present Hunter Johnson. Although maybe it’s not his fault the recruiting services missed on him so bad.
