Remaining wins to keep Brownell?

I think he has to get to 20. I know losing Donte is huge, but he has to get 4 more wins. Is he gone or not?

and we may not make it with 20 because they take into account injuries, so the fact that we're playing like garbage without Grantham isn't helping.

Well yeah, why wouldn't they get him to sign an extension
Jan 25, 2018, 2:05 PM
|
|
after this year?
His current contract is through 20-21, so if he doesn't sign an extension he would have three years remaining. Since we typically do not get one and done players that would mean a player signing with us would have longer eligibility than years on the coaches contract.
That would not really help any with the solidarity of the coaching staff during the players eligibility, and could certainly hurt recruiting.
That's not a recipe for success, and why you rarely see coaches in any college sport with a contract less than 4 years at any point in time.

To the best of my knowledge, Clemson has had 22 head basketball coaches. Those 22 coaches never took us to the final four even though each one was going to be our savior when they were hired. What are the odds coach No. 23 is going to take us to the promised land? If Brownell were the coach at Duke, Kansas, Villanova or UNC, we would be saying, "I wish we had him for our coach". Those schools have great coaches but their basketball success over the years sure helps recruiting. What highly rated recruit would consider coming to Clemson when supposedly fans of Clemson want to fire the current coach. Clemson's basketball history is not going to attract top talent, therefore, we have to depend on the coaches ability to attract top talent. From where I sit, any coach who comes to Clemson is already behind the eight ball. Who are some of the highly successful D1 coaches out there who would willingly come to Clemson and guarantee a winning program? Success at one school does not always translate to success at another school.

The question is whether that's good enough to make the tourney? It's pretty clear the team has shown tremendous improvement this year and it's a shame Grantham got hurt, but I think Brownell will be back next year and unless we lose out, which isn't gonna happen, then he will be back next year and deserves to be.

Remaining games. B.B. has three clones in Spencer, Oliver & Trapp and I was not impressed with them against UVA. I can’t see him holding on with terrible & non competitive losses the rest of the way. Hope the team pulls it together, but eight years in the wilderness is a long time.

They continue to practice without Donte, but if not they only have a chance to beat Wake, Pitt and GaT at home,Period. Larry Nance and Skip Wise ain’t walking through that door. Hey, why didn’t we recruit one of Larry’s kids to Clemson?

Spencer and Oliver either to step up or plan to transfer so Brownell can look at two better transfers himself. I know we have three firm commits, but I am not impressed with what either Oliver or Spencer has shown from on the floor. We need another inside presence besides an incoming freshman and we really need a solid scorer as well.
Go Tigers!

We lost a huge lead with Zion and are beating schools like UAB, Depaul, and Charlotte for players.... that's not going to cut it in the ACC.

I like our recruits. I like our last recruiting class with Simms too. They have more offers than ,ost of our players used to. Also, I have watched their film. I like what I see. Also, your facts are wrong on the offers. Let's take our biggest recruit and look at all of his offers. Trey Jamison had great offers. Look again. You're just being negative.

You can't just pick the best of the 3. Combined all 3 only have 6 ACC offers(2 of those being WF). That's not going to sustain us in the ACC.

Can they pull it back together and win 4 or 5 more and look good in rest of games? Or did they lose the heart of the team in Grantham? I hope not, I hope they bounce back and play well the rest of the year, getting into the NCAA and win a couple of games there. They have some good players coming in next year.
