Charles G. (Lefty) Driesell yesterday???----I believe it was on Walt Deptula's "Road Rage" show. Per Walt, it'll be up on their website either Friday or Monday.

I, too, missed it. But I did hear a snippet this afternoon that left me in stitches.

Lefty was talking about his meetings with Coach Frank Howard. He said that once, when Duke had a good football team coached (I believe he said) by a man named Harper, he asked Coach Howard what he thought about Harper's football Dukies........per Lefty, Coach Howard replied:

(and imagine it in Coach Howard's voice)"Yeah, I know Harper--good man. Too bad he's let his success go to his mouth"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lefty also said Coach Howard tried to hire him away from Davidson to coach Clemson's basketball team (and too bad it didn't come to fruition). Lefty said he told Coach Howard he just couldn't leave Davidson because he could recruit well and he was in the Top 10 just about every year. Nonetheless, he said Coach Howard was insistant they meet somewhere to discuss the job offer. Lefty met with Coach Howard and said the venerable one reached into his jacket and pulled out a note pad and showed Lefty a huge figure written on the notepad. Lefty said Coach Howard looked at him and said:

"Thats how much money I raised through IPTAY last year.....we could BUY Davidson"!!!!!!!!

Lefty stuck by his guns though.

I can't wait to hear the rest of the interview

Lefty said he was gonna write a book if he didn't die first. Eighty years old and sounds like he did thirty years ago.
He is one of a kind. Brought back some good memories.
