Defense is great; OC calls & QB play is costing us wins...

It's as simple as that. No need to burn the house down. Goodwin looks like he's up to the task, and Riley should be good also. Dabo is still the biggest blessing this University has ever seen.
The sky isn't falling, we just made some very costly decisions and mistakes and we're 2-2 because of it. Decisions and actions have consequences.
We were the better team on Saturday...and we blew it.
Count me among the people who would prefer to hear the Coach and QB just say that. All the statistics and sunshine, platitudes and prognostications are not helping anything. Dabo has a free pass here for the next 100 years - just say we had them beat twice and gave it away three times, that's on me.
Cade is playing like an actual sophomore who's hopefully going to be really good someday, but he's not a prodigy. He can still be a champion though, but that's going to have to wait until next year.
Keon Coleman (there) and Brent Venables (not here) are not singularly responsible for anything.
It's only September and I need Tiger football to enjoy my Fall, so let's shoot for 6-2 in the conference and see what happens.
There's no change coming, no matter how many more games we lose, so we might as well just win them all.

It's the coaching all the way around. We are losing on the margins. How organized fsu was compared to us was obvious-I don't think they had one false start (could be mistaken).

Clemson is one of the best penalized teams in college football. What does that say?

Seems like its a coaching experience issue.

1. Not developing players
2. Missing evaluations
3. Game day costly gaffs with play calling
Dabo lost his very experienced staff and replaced them with an inexperienced staff.
We are seeing it now with lots of loses as they grow into their roles.
Wes may be a fine coach but he blew it at the end of the 2nd half.
Grisham hasn’t developed a single WR but his recruiting is picking up.
My question is….why is Clemson the place these coaches are learning on the job? Seems like that’s a big decision to me.

I think Garret Riley is a great OC, especially if you saw what he did at TCU and SMU. I think he's handcuffed by the young QB, lack of true deep threats, and I really think Dabo is overriding him when it matters, (i.e. 3rd and 9 qb draw to setup a FG, in no world do I think Garret Riley is calling to setup a fg there.)

Agreed. I feel like the team is just getting better each week. Haven’t been able to put that complete game together just yet but I got a feeling when we do, this team is gonna start rolling. I def think next season, this offense alone is gonna be a problem for other teams.

not sure what you saw at QB. The fumble was not his fault. He played an excellent game.

QB played a good game, for sure. Excellent is a stretch.
Unfortunately, games, seasons and legacy can come down to a few plays and that decision to throw the screen on 3rd and 1 in OT was unnecessary and costly. The 4th down play wasn't so good either.
One or two handoffs there and we're likely talking about a win on Saturday instead of this loss. In either case he's still in the learning/growing process.
I'm on his side, I'm just saying an excellent game would have had a different outcome.

I wonder, had Cade handed off and the OL blocked like the WRs and we were tackled for a 3 yard loss, if Dabo (and the keyboard coaches) would have been yelling at Cade “We had the numbers out wide!” That play still came down to execution or complete lack of it. As many have said on here for years we lose yards more often than gain on the WR screen but Cade actually believes guys in pads will sack up and get enough of a DB to gain a single yard. It’s honestly not a lot to expect of your teammates.

Cade did play well, but the sack/scoop/score is something a QB has to feel/sense. It was at the 2.5/3 second after snap so he has to know the defense will be on him soon so cannot simply sit there and not expect a defender to get to him.
He locks in at time, and that was perfect example where he locked in and did not view the entire field. The QB has to process very quickly, almost insane how quick things happen.
The fumble is definitely on him, gotta be aware as a QB more so than any other position.

De Loach came from a deep LB drop and had a straight line run at the QB.
It’s like a delayed steal in baseball or a TE on a delayed release—it’s a sneaky play called by a veteran DC, taking advantage of the inexperience of the OL and QB because you kept that trick hidden in your bag until the perfect opportunity. (Unless DeLoach saw the opportunity and ad libbed; if he did, it was brilliant)
You can’t have it both ways. Our offense is inept if we can’t push the ball downfield, but yet you expect the QB to dump the ball more quickly so that sack doesn’t happen.

Seems like that would be considered significant. But apparently not by many on Tnet.

This portal obsession is way, WAY overblown.
Bottom line, we outplayed them. They were exetremely fortunate to win the game, but yeah, they won and that happens in sports. However, I'll take our team, right now, all day long. But go ahead and keep harping on the portal - it's a field leveling opportunity for teams with low talent. That's all!

The reason nobody can agree among 10 different problems

is because our entire team is inconsistent, shaky and lacks professional confidence. That's a sign of a lack of systemic leadership.
The defense looks good sometimes and awful sometimes. The DC looks smart sometimes and stupid sometimes. The offense looks great sometimes and stupid sometimes. The players look tough sometimes and soft sometimes. It's systemic leadership. We have too many coaches on our staff who are not natural leaders. Venables was like a Samurai Warlord with his extreme leadership aura. Nick Eason was a step in the right direction... but I suspect we are hollow with Goodwin and Conn when it comes to instilling the wardaddy mentality. Obviously speculation but imagine how inspiring someone like Goodwin can be.
On the offensive side of the ball, I'm choosing to be optimistic and say our problems are less systemic coaching (though I think we lack experienced, old-school leadership) we have a new OC and a relatively new, young QB. That is significant.

Goodwin not bad but should get after QB with more than rushing 3 at times. Terrible management just before end of first half

Cade was phenomenal. Best game we've seen from a QB since 2020. It was entirely on the coach's. And I think Pork Chop and Riley were actually good 90% of the game. You just have to fault Dabo, Riley, and Wes for about 10 boneheaded play calls between the three of them that cost us that game.

You're an idiot, simple as that. Go find another team if this one does not meet your needs.
