Dabo fired Koenning and Spence and hired Steele and Napier

Then he fired Steele and Napier and hired ... Venables and Morris.
Steele and Napier were not great hires, but Dabo seemed to have learned from his mistakes.
Venables and Morris we’re home runs!
When Morris quit, he promoted Jeff Scott and Tony Elliott. It seemed to work out okay, but the recruiting and the talent level was top notch ... maybe hid flaws in coaching? Who knows. Everyone seems to have an opinion.
At the assistants coach level, he’s looked to the outside, and brought in Marion Hobby and then Todd Bates, as well as Robbie Caldwell, Lemanski Hall, and Mike Reed.
But, he’s also leaned pretty heavily on former players lately like Spiller, Grisham, Streeter.
Now he’s headed into another period of uncertainty where his hiring decisions may make or break the momentum he gathered over the past decade.
This is going to be a very interesting next few weeks for Clemson fans who had become used to the status quo.
Here’s the question.
Do YOU have faith in Dabo or not?

Yep. I agree. Some of the people on this board would follow Dabo over a cliff.
The promote from within crap has not worked. Best is the standard, remember?

How did it fail? Elliott and Scott were failures? You do realize it’s not just X’s and O’s. Elliott and Scott were/are great recruiters. When people say talent might have masked the coaching…those are the same coaches that brought those players in. So who knows, if Clemson didnt have them recruiting, they might not have had any of this success. There are plenty of “Football minds” in College that have had fractions of the success as Clemson over the last 7 years.

But there seems to be some revisionists history going on with Chad Morris, and I can’t quite figure out why.

but he also struggled a little in big games. You could tell his anxiety level by the speed at which he chewed his gum.
Again, great coach, glad he was a Tiger, but he gets a lot of (too much?) credit for the championships that came after his tenure vs the coaches who were actually coaching at that time.

Vic resigned and went to KSU because he wasn't made interim

head coach. Spence was fired when Dabo took over interim and Billy was brought up the ladder as interim. Dabo didn't really have choices then. Once he got his feet under him, he made the necessary and correct moves.

Absolutely correct. The story goes that the first thing Dabo asked was if he could fire Spence, for which we're all eternally grateful.
Napier was just too young back then. But I give Dabo credit for recognizing his ability. Napier has done pretty #### well for himself.

Preemptive move? Vic supposedly nicknamed Dabo “Goatboy”

Koenning resigned, but it was obvious that the two were not going to get along. He was going to leave one way or the other.
Where would we be today if Vic Koenning had been made interim HC instead of Dabo?
Koenning could have helped in the transition, but he chose otherwise out of pride.
Dabo was able to overcome the issue.

Have we ever been more talented than Bama or Ohio St?

Not according to recruiting rankings.
No one out-talents Alabama, you have to outplay them and outcoach them.
And lest we forget, Saban has still only lost 2 National title games. All those other brilliant, coach-em-up, X and O geniuses were never able to do what Dabo has done twice.
I think we can trust Dabo to make a good choice, and if it isn't a good choice, to recognize it and fix it, and he's earned the leeway to do that.
