Dabo bringing up past success after every loss

Something he has started to do in recent years. He did it again today in the press conference. Talking about how all the ACC titles he has won in the past.
I understand why, it’s sorta like he is telling fans to keep faith in him. But are his past wins really relevant to current results right now?

Sounds an awful lot like Kamala, also repeating the same word or phrase 4-5 times in the same paragraph. About the same substance.

but it's really a contradiction in assumptions. If past successes are relevant to a job performance assessment (and they are), then past and current failures are as well. We don't have to deny anything he's accomplished in the past to be honest about what's happening now. It's like he's offering us a false dichotomy - something along the lines of "if you criticize me now, then you're obviously refusing to acknowledge my past successes -- and you can acknowledge my past successes by not criticizing me now."

Thank you. I've been thinking the same thing. Just like last year too, he used to never theorize about "ifs " on losses and say we were only 14 points away from being 10-2 or whatever. Use that logic and say we were only 14 points from losing 2 other games too. That stuff is for fans. Especially fans of a losing program down the road.
Unequivocally he's the best we've ever had. But to your point. It's a very odd change from his windshield only personality.

And as most coaches do, takes full blame for a loss. Does this come with absolution?
It's sometimes strange in college football. Are all sins forgiven with a win? Sometimes yes, others no. IMO it depends on the loss and the win. Some things just can't be overcome. Ask Ryan Day should he continue to lose to Michigan.
But Clemson in the last 10 years, has been trending. We've trended up and we've trended down. We were done after UGA handed our behinds to us. Then, we were trending up. Some would say against lesser teams. I can't argue with that. But I wouldn't want to be trending down against the same opponents. That being said, we are now trending down again. We're not going to fire a head coach after a loss. We're not going to fire one if we don't win a conference title every year. We ARE a program that doesn't have multiple former HC's still on the payroll. See how that's working out for Auburn.
So Dabo points to the past. What would you have him do? If he said we are going to win out, go to the playoffs and contend for the national title would you believe him? Would you still have the "faith"? Why should he have to continually reach out for the trust? He's got enough people outside the Clemson family that don't like him and want him gone. That continually make light of his beliefs and/or his philosophy for running the program.
I'm upset as the next Tiger fan about the loss on Saturday. IMO we got out coached. Our coach has taken the blame for that. As Dabo points to the past, I don't think he's fishing for us to "keep the faith". I think he's telling us in so many words that after all these years, I've earned the right to mess up.

"I was wrong. We're going to go all in in up front NIL and start using the transfer portal more aggressively".
Then he could stop the nepotism and buddy coaching hires and put performance over personal loyalty.

I think Dabo's journey at Clemson has run it's course. The Louisville game confirmed it. It's time for a "new" voice for Tigertown. There are many younger coaches who would come to Clemson to continue the success that he helped accomplish, but a willingness to adjust to today's changes. Kingdoms rise and fall.

"ah, the good ole days." Isn't that what people fall back on as a justification for when the present days have not been so kind? That is such a defeatist attitude and we know Dabo is much better than that.
Perhaps he just doesn't have enough fingers to fill all the holes in the dyke right now, but you have to start the process and work your way through it. Mid-season probably isn't the best time to start, but this next off season has to be the time to make a major shift in your philosophy, attitude, and execution.
I think he deserves the chance to get it fixed, but he has to get on with it.

Two things can be true at once
1) Dabo has brought us the most success we have ever had as a program and will likely be the greatest Clemson football coach of all time
2) Dabo’s questionable hiring and talent acquisition tactics have turned Clemson into a 8-9 win program. I hope he stays and fixes it!

Dabo has a great record at Clemson, but 4 consecutive misses in the CFP tells us that he has lost his edge (It is clear he won't get into the playoffs this season). They won't run the table, and if they do, SMU and Miami has the advantage, and will play for the title. You can't live in the past unfortunately, and that simply won't cut it. No more excuses.

How many Dabo’s does it take to change a lightbulb? Zero - he just talks about how good the old lightbulb was.

I just don't understand why it seems every year we have the same problems... If it's not kicking, it's trying to block someone.

He gets defensive when he feels attacked.
While I understand the human desire to defend your reputation, it gets old hearing Dabo reference our elite success from last decade to try to excuse our underachieving the last few years.

I could make you a pretty chart, but it's clear as day. Just hope we don't lose 4 or 5 this year and continue the downward trend.
