D.J. Reader Status
Oct 18, 2015, 1:30 PM
|
|
Realistically, how long before D.J. Reader will be ready for some playing time? He's been away from the program for 6-8 weeks, right? Certainly his fitness and skills will have deteriorated. This isn't really like an injury where the athlete is working full-time with the trainers. Hopefully he'll be ready to contribute in 3 weeks for our game with Florida State.
Has he been on campus? Lifting weights at least?

That's not necessarily football condition. I would guess at two or three weeks

He's been lifting and running since he left the team. He was in outstanding condition before he went out so his conditioning should be fine. He'll need to practice the ncaa required number of days before he's allowed contact I think it's 3 or 4 days after that he'll be ready to go. Teams don't practice to get players in shape anymore they expect them to be ready when the season starts, I think he doesn't miss a beat once he's cleared for contact.

DJ went thru most of fall camp, including the NCAA acclimation period, so he will be eligible to hit tomorrow and play on Saturday if the coaches allow him to.

Would say he could play this week but NC state before he is ready, but has to work his way back up the pecking order.

Based on the interview just posted, it doesn't sound like Venables is in a hurry to get him on the field.

Agree, It sends a bad message to the team, he is going to earn his pt as if he were a true freshman.
