It is definitely a joke. The transfer rule may be more detrimental than the NIL itself.
It is free agency every year. The NFL without contracts and where tampering is allowed. I think it will all lead to some sort of contract system at some point. You cannot manage a roster this way.

Once it became a millionaires game of pawns, I lost all interest in caring about the games. This has happened in MLB, NBA, NFL and now coming to college football. When teams become just a group of mercenaries, it loses all emotional appeal to me.
I’m hopeful the colleges see the writing on the wall and do something to stop the trend they are on here, but not sure they can do anything at this point. It would be interesting if a group of colleges broke off and just opted out of this current pay for play scheme altogether and got back to being strictly about putting education first. Right now, semi-pro football is being put first.
Now that would create more of an Ivy League type league of true student athletes who wouldn’t be a bunch of hired semi-pros, so the elite athletes may not be there, but at least they are truly amateurs playing a sport they love for the university they love. Now that gets my interest.

My lifelong zeal for the game is waning.
The NIL, the overpaid players and coaches, the portal has taken away from the excitement.
We can keep pretending but the college game has become business.
