Could the SEC be left out of the playoff this year?

Undefeated Ohio State Undefeated Washington Undefeated Florida State 1 loss Texas (holds W @ Bama)
All above would be conference champs.
Bama beats UGA in SECCG.
Then you have a one loss SEC champ with a home loss to Texas. And the ACC for now has a winning record vs the SEC this year.
Wouldn’t the SEC have to be out?

That will never happen. Not with the pollsters we have today.

We can only hope. Can you imagine if Oregon, UM/OSU, Bama, UGA and Texas all end up with one loss? Texas would have beaten Bama. Bama would have beaten UGA. UM/OSU would lose to OSU/UM. Oregon would have a loss to Washington. Texas would have the outlier with their loss to a currently with 2 losses OU.
OSU - 0 losses FSU - 0 losses Washington - 0 losses UM - 1 loss to OSU Bama - 1 loss to Texas UGA - 1 loss to Bama Oregon - 1 loss to Washington Texas - 1 loss to OU
Want stuff to get really weird? Let Ole Miss sneak out of Athens with a win. FSU slips up in Charlotte. Washington loses to Oregon in the P12CG. OSU loses to Michigan. Michigan either loses to the B1G West champ OR they get hit with a post season ban by the B1G. There could be 9 teams with 1 loss if Louisville can keep from stumbling. Complete. And. Utter. Chaos.

If it's Michigan undefeated instead of 031-0 State, that's when the SEC starts crying to and begging the NCAA to get Michigan bowl banned so they can't be in the CFP.

Eventuallly the "Clemson is leaving the ACC" rumors will start up again and the SEC bashing will be replaced with "we're going to the SEC, baby!".

If Ole Miss wins in Athens things get crazy. Home field will help UGA pull it out, likely.
One loss conference champ Bama WOULD NOT be in over 1 loss Texas who beat Bama by double digits on their home field, meaning no SEC in playoff.
Maybe 12 team playoff didn’t come soon enough…

I would love to see it come down to Bama or Texas for the 4th spot, and leave the committee trying to justify how they put Bama in ahead of Texas! But they will certainly try! Can't have a CFP without the SEC!!

And as a basic college football fan, I understand the committee's rationale/SEC bias. And as a Longhorn, would submit that Texas is, for all intents and porpoises, as much an SEC program as a BXII program this year, given the hype surrounding our imminent move.

I hope so. But there is such an $EC bias across college football. E$PN is funding the $EC - paying three more than other confirmation, so they are not unbiased and would enfluence the voting.

The PO Committee's goal has always been to select the 4 best teams.

I think they've done a good job. Conference championships are way down the list of metrics they use to decide which are the 4 best. They've done a very good job because every year the best team comes away with the trophy.
I'm not an SEC homer and I pay less attention to ESPiN than CNN but the SEC has a few good teams every year.

Conference championships are actually near the top of the list of criteria when separating teams with similar profiles. It has always carried a lot of weight and previous final rankings reflect that fact.

Not if the SEC Champ has only one loss, even if that is Bama.

The Committee overall has not put nearly as much emphasis on early season losses as they do later on. Even I, as a complete neophyte fan, look at the direction of Bama and Texas as the season has gone on, and believe that a rematch would not even be close. Bama would truck them.
And, in case anybody has been lulled to sleep, Georgia is still unbeaten at this time.

SEC could. I guarantee you a one loss UGA or one loss Bama is in. Whichever one is conference champ.
