Could Chad Kelly avoid a redshirt?
Aug 3, 2012, 11:00 AM
|
|
With Tony down with and ACL injury, and Stoudt potentially needed surgery for a knee inflamation, could Chad Kelly be the guy? I know all of the off field crap that we hear from him, but I am really interested to see how his practices go and if he can be a contributer this season!
By the way, any update on Stoudt?

Kelly is expected to play this year (no RS)

They are even designing a special package for him (since he can run with the ball effectively).

Well, a lot of "iffs" in there. It really depends how well he comes out of camp this summer and how Stoudt's knee holds up. If we can rs him this year, that would be optimal. If not, we have the #1 QB in the nation coming in 2014 anyways.

I thought he looked good in the spring game, but that doesn't neccesarily equate to regular season performance.

The kid throws "floaters"....not enough arm strength, IMO but he does have decent mobility. I'm quite sure he's not the guy that's going to be our #2. I see it being either Stoudt (depending upon his knee) or Kelly (depending upon his head) going into the Auburn game.

I think the plan would be to red shirt him but depending upon how Cole's knee is doing, that may not be an option.

Chad Kelly was hand picked by Chad Morris and he will be the back up to Boyd. Morris said in a earlier comment that if Kelly comes in prepared to play and wins the number two spot he will play every game. He said he would install some packages to put Kelly in to run.

haven't heard that 1...not saying it isn't true. Just haven't heard that-got a link.
But sure, if he didn't play,or wasn't 100%- the door might be wide open for Kelly-IMHO.

Absolutely - he likely will be 2nd on the depth chart

If Tajh goes down with an injury, it's completely within the realm of possibility that Chad Kelly could start games next year.

Dang - can anyone really learn much of the playbook that fast??? That's asking a lot IMO. I can see him running a few packages specific to him, but I see Morgan R. being more of the backup to Boyd if TB is not available for any reason. That is - if Stoudt is still injured.
That said - I really like M.R. in the Spring. He might be a good one.

You can forget about Morgan Roberts ever being a starter at Clemson at QB. So what if he had a good spring, how many other players have you seen in the past that had a good spring and never got to play? The QB's are Boyd, Kelly, Stoudt only if these three goes down will Roberts ever get his chance.
