So, my take on the game

For the first time I believe since TL, we actually put away a team we should have. Took a while, but once we got out of our own way, we dominated as we should have. I'm not knocking the kid, but every game under DJ seemed to be a grind. One reason Cade didn't play as much as we all would have liked last year was we couldn't put teams away. Furman took us to the 4th quarter. La Tech gave us some fits.
The bonehead plays are frustrating. Bonehead plays that lead to easy points for the opposition or cost us points as at Duke even more so. Most have been on Cade.
In spite of the bonehead plays, Cade didn't get down on himself. How many times did we see DJ make a few and then go MIA? He has the right mental make up as a QB. Now, he needs experience.
TJ Parker is a dude. Mascoll is what he's always been, a good, not great DE. Parker will be a guy teams have to game plan for.
Nice to see Stellato play well. He and Brown have speed, which we need to see emerge on the outside. Been disappointed with Randall, he seems to have trouble getting of the line of scrimmage. Competition noted, but WR got open and caught the ball well. Beaux, except for the brain fart on the long TD, made plays. He was 6" away from 2 long scores on the one he stepped out of bounds on.
Lucas has come a long way at CB. He's big and physical. Our back end is going to be good.
Both first and second team OL have talent. We've moved the ball very well the last 4 games, even with the 2-2 record. People may not like the opinion, but Austin is doing a good technical job coaching, and has elevated our recruiting.
Our backup RB's are good, in spite of the recruiting ratings. Thomas is a load. Adams has the best RB nickname maybe of all time, and we see why he has it. Haynes is smooth with a burst. They won't play much unless someone is banged up, but they can all play.
Second half was very crisp on both sides. After 3 lackluster halves to begin the year, that was nice to see. Amazing what can happen when you don't blow your own foot off.
Hoping for a crisp game against FAU, and for a lot of guys to play again. 9/23 will be a war. In 2014 we shot ourselves in the foot over and over and got trained. That could happen again. But we also could play well, and if we do, FSU will be game on. They may be better, and may win, but if we play without the bonehead plays, it will be a heck of a game.

ditto Row and MyFO on your post Striper. Sad to say I now scroll through posts by tnet handle, not subject (losing or poor play really brings them out from the holes in the woodwork, eh?), so you did not disappoint.
Agree, going to take our best effort to beat the ’noles, but I’m hopeful our defense will give us a pretty good chance of doing just that.
GO TIGER!!!

Containing their QB is the key

he's a legit playmaker who can kill you when he breaks containment. DT's will need to push the pocket and DE's keep him in it. Will take a very disciplined, defensive effort

I actually said the same thing about Jordan Travis and his ability to create big plays when scrambling. If we can limit that, then we have a good chance.

We will just need a couple of timely turnovers and cash them in. If that happens and we can get them to play from behind and start pressing we have a chance.

All the coaches know, and all of us should realize, that Cade is learning every practice and every game. As you said, Cade did not play much last year until the end of the year and did very well but is just starting. He will mature and the more film he sees, the more he will understand that he cannot make throws like the couple he made yesterday. Cade will be fine and we will be fine. Another scrimmage this week and then big time ball starts.

This man needs his own column. Thanks for sharing. I totally agree. I think we surprise people against FSU. The Tigers have been written off and tossed in the trash. Taking out the new media darling would be hilarious.

Spot on as usual, Striper. I believe a little more experience will help Cade calm down a little. He does seem to still be a little jittery and it looks like he sort of loses his focus on things like getting the snap and where he is on the field when he gets in trouble. But he is also doing a lot of good things. The other thing that looked really good is the 2 back set. Sending one up the middle and the other out in the flats has been very productive. Also opens up the QB run game and adds more protection for Cade on passing plays. This puts our best players on the field.
One thing I would like to see is less skipping around like we just did something fantastic. I see Cade and the WRs doing a lot of it. I would rather see them put their head down and focus. There will be plenty of time for skipping around and celebrating after the game.

“skipping around”. That’s what it is and they should be roundly mocked for it… but lovingly and with the best intentions because they are our Tigers.

I don’t know which I like better, the quality of the content in this post or the amount of positive feedback, which tells me there are objective fans on this board. I have had my doubts.

Great point about Cade responding. Not to bring up ghost of the past but that was really DJ’s biggest problem. He’s a really talented kid but any mistakes would get in his head and his mechanics would fall apart after, sometimes for even games at a time.
I said it the day of but that second half was the best half of Clemson football we’ve seen in years. If Clemson can put together a full game of that next week then we all feel a lot more confident in this team as we enter the conference schedule.

The new QB just needs to play.
He will improve with every game.
He has all the tools and I can see an improving group of receivers.
I hope the coaches let him play
