He was already a star before that with his prog rock stuff from Genesis. A lot of people don't realize he was one of the best drummers in the business.

Phil Collins vocals. Collins was indeed a beast of a drummer and I absolutely wore out Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, Selling England By The Pound, and The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway back in the day. After Gabriel left and Phil took over vocals, I kinda lost interest in Genesis, but there's no denying that Phil Collins is a supremely talented singer, drummer, and songwriter. I haven't kept up, but seems like I read that he was having a myriad of health problems and not doing much musically these days.
