College Football and the eye test

6

Dec 4, 2023, 8:03 AM

Georgia and Oregon were both favored in their conference championship games and both lost. The eye test was incorrect in 2 out of 5 of the power conference championship games. That is a 40% failure rate. College football is supposed to be about results on the field.

I have no love lost for Florida State because they bought their players. I also remember how they canceled the game right before kickoff because they were about to get curb stomped by Clemson. To me this is about right versus wrong. Florida State got the shaft yesterday. That could be Clemson next year. I am curious to see if the Florida legislature files suit. If they do, I hope that they win the case.

To me, it expedites the change we all know is needed. Just as Dabo projected several years ago. We'll get over this in January. My concern is the long term implications. It won't be immediately felt, but it will affect us.

Meanwhile FSU won and covered the spread

with their 3rd string QB. Not bad for a one man team.

And beat the #13 team (and presumed Heisman winner)

Just what would the basis of that suit be?

Dec 4, 2023, 8:19 AM

I believe that would just be a wasted, sour grapes exercise.

Gov Desantis and Sen Scott have mentioned Disney(ESPN) and the state of Florida. I don’t know if the state has a leg to stand on but we will find out.

when in doubt you can always resort to the wookie defense***

I keep thinking "4 best" versus "4 most-deserving". I get the decision, but it just feels wrong.

"4 best" is 100% subjective

did UGA look like the best team in the nation against SCAR
Did Bama vs Auburn?
OHIO state was the best team but a 6 point loss to Michigan means they are suddenly NOT any good any more...

sometimes you look good sometimes you don't.. but the point isn't to look good.. it is to beat the team you are playing.

THe BEST philosophy has been the flaw with college football ever since they started awarding NC's. no different today. They hated computer polls because it completely took away their ability to pick and choose the fate of the college football NC.

Bama beating Georgia was not a surprise,

but did not believe Washington could beat Oregon twice.
